I would expect some carriers to limit or simply forbid its use, Verizon comes to mind. Especially on customers who don't have unlimited data plans.

VZW would allow the device. They carry the XV6700 which also has Wi-Fi. I do hear though that the Wi-Fi doesn't work on that device if you don't have the PDA Connect package.

Also, VZW doesn't allow a Blackberry to be active without a Blackberry Connect feature anyways.

Trust me, it won't be full, no restrictions Wifi on Verizon. Its not in their best business interest to allow it.

I agree with you on that one. Never been done before and I doubt we will see unrestricted wi-fi any time soon unless VZW opens up and lets us use OEM phones on their network.

Why would you need WI-FI if most new devices are EVDO ready? CDMA atleast.

Phones with wi-fi are going to be a hot item once entire cities are setup with wi-fi, especially phones that are UMA-enabled for VoIP. That's going to be awesome.

Exactly why Verizon and others will restrict it. If you can get free wifi, why would you pay Verizon $50 a month to use theirs.

Why would anyone want a digital phone when analog coverage will make calls just fine?

WiFi coverage in the United States covers a much larger area and the signal is more reliable than EV-DO on CDMA.

Many reasons, such as allowing additional coverage on a company campus, such as Google, HSN, etc. where carrier coverage may not be the best. Build a good wifi network, and expand data coverage for customers of any carrier who have a wifi device.

Also, many people may want wifi for other reasons, and do not want to pay the exhorbitant data plan prices from Verizon.

I don't know about you guys. But I have the 6700 pda phone for Verizon. I would use the Wi-Fi all the time when I used the phone as a cell phone and pda. (I didn't have the unlimited data feature)

Now that I have a regular phone. (LG-vx9900) I STILL use the Wi-fi. (the Avx-6700 is NOT attached to a number) still without being charged any fees.
