isn't the default color for the VZW UI red too? this would lend credence to your "commie UI" claim ๐Ÿ˜›

you're right though - i wonder what will happen when/if motorola decides to start using their new cool looking operating system on cdma phones? will verizon still continue putting the Commie UI on the phones that go to them?

personal opinion - vzw may be better served by offering two versions of some of their high demand phones (i.e. this phone, the KRZR, some of the Samsungs and LGs, etc.) - one with the VZW UI and one with the manufacturer UI... this would probably help increase their sales and help them with their customer retention. The thing that Cingular/T-Mobile/Sprint/Nextel have that VZW doesn't have is CHOICE. If you ...

Personally, I wouuldn't put all that much faith in Sprint have the MotoRizr. Because it seems as though for whatever reason, Sprint and Moto don't have the greatest releationship, and it doesn't seem that not all Moto phones reach Sprint.

But then again, Sprint is what's known as NON-Cingular.

I agree the UI on the moto phones need some work. or even if they just made the bars Black instead of red and sped it up so it didnt lag behind on the Motorolas then I would probably buy it.

if you read what you responded to you'd of read that verizon is communist due to the fact 90% of its phones carry identical UI... and that translates to no matter what the phone looks like or acts like it will be identical to its predecessor, when you look at AT&T mobility you'd notice that they keep the manufacturers UI excluding the media mall and other EXTRA features added to the existing software...

at least Nextel's excuse is all of their phones are made by MOTOROLA

yeah well AT&T is a second rate carrier. if I wanted to be treated like **** by customer service and have a second tier network just to get a UI thats made by motorola I would probably be with them now wouldnt I.

i would respond to that by saying that if you would rather be with a carrier that offers you a choice based on your personal preferences, then AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint are your choices.

My opinion is that Verizon ends up stifling innovations by requiring that all their phones have the same User Interface. While that may be good for some; such as those who may have a difficult time with changing technology etc., it is not good for others who feel more comfortable with technology.

As I said in an earlier post, Verizon may be better served to offer two versions of their phones - one with their UI and one with the manufacturer UI. I feel that would be a quick and easy, and probably even better, way for them to get more marketshare.

second tier meaning they have the second best network in the industry. Verizon Wireless has the best network, period.

is that an opinion or a fact? or an opinion that you have converted to fact?

(oh i should mention, i'm a doctoral candidate in history and that's a question i ask in a lot of my classes.........i also have my JD so i love to argue)

on what basis do you claim verizon is better? personal use? that's opinion. advertising? hearsay. friends? hearsay. until it's a proven fact, i won't buy that verizon's network is "better" than at&t or any other network (and network maps are garbage)

your usage of the term "second-tier" is wrong. you're saying that it's an inferior technology with the use of "second tier"; which is not true. Second tier would be something like TDMA, which IS an inferior technology (that's actually like beyond second...

well since you want to get technical GSM is an inferior technology to CDMA in terms of security and capacity per cell tower.

as far as having the better network Verizon Wireless has far more backing to make the claims then any other network. every year JD Power and associates and Consumer reports put Verizon Wireless at or near the top in all regions while AT&T is near the middle or bottum. many newspapers around the country have conducted their own little drive tests around their city and the majority of them point towards Verizon Wireless for being the best. VZW themselves has real life test men and women who conduct hundreds of thousands of voice and data calls on the VZW network and the networks of sprint/at&t etc and those tests also...

all valid points. i would be pressed to reconsider. mind you i'm just a guy who checks out this site when i'm taking breaks from grading papers or writing my thesis, so i'm not aware of every test etc.

The point of my original (like 2-3 days ago) post was not whether or not the network was the "best"; rather, it's the "communist" user interface, and the limitation of choice by verizon. regardless of if you spend $300 or get the free phone, they'll work the same - and the addition of cameras and bluetooth (crippled!) is what you're paying for. i am certain that there are features that these phones have that are not being fully utilized because of the carrier's user interface (i.e. bluetooth).

if you are interested in the network a...

pfff... biggest load of garbage I've ever heard. if you have all this proof provide links. About being the best; why does at&t mobility have the most customers, 61million? we both know verizon is close but no cigar. so get off verizons nuts and realize its a CELL PHONE! you believe its the end of the world or something.
technically speaking t-mobile is the only carrier that won AWS nation wide... so in 10-15 years you better carry your obsession with you to T-mobile

we are talking about retail customers here, aka people who actually are direct customers of cingular or verizon wireless

VZW has more retail customers then cingular.
Cingular(AT&T) has more resellers (tracphone etc) that puff up its numbers.

More people pay Verizon Wireless each month for wireless service then pay Cingular(at&t)

More people are included in unlimited IN calling then are included in AT&T's standard mobile to mobile because you dont get unlimited M2m to Tracphone do you.

If you want to talk about retail adds you guys got killed last quarter. VZW added 1.6million RETAIL adds q1. AT&T added 800,000. VZW added DOUBLE the actual customers last quarter.

It only looks somewhat close because cingular got Tracphone and...

btw your numbers are off.

The carrier ended the first three months of the year with 58.5 million direct customers on its network, the most of any domestic operator. Verizon Wireless had a total of 60.7 million customers at the end of quarter, just short of AT&Tโ€™s 62.2 million customers. ~RCR Wireless News.

Not to rain on your parade, but this argument is ludicrous. Who cares who's network has the most subscribers. The only thing that matters is who has the best coverage IN THE AREAS YOU MOST FREQUENTLY USE YOUR PHONE. For me, Verizon has great coverage all over Colorado, but stinks at my house in Boulder. So they're out. Likewise Sprint. Turns out the T-Mobile works the best for me. I don't expect you to care, but the point is everyone needs to evaluate their needs and for most, the size of the network is going to matter far less than the distance to each carrier's nearest tower.
