It makes perfect sense to me - the V551 adds EDGE and video. The only thing you lose is the changeable metal covers. Selling both the V551 and V600 at the same time wouldn't make much sense, since the V600 has always been positioned as a top-of-the-line model, but the V551 is more advanced. I think discontinuing the V600 is exactly what I would do if I were about to roll out the V551. I'm just speculating, though.
I haven't noticed FCC approval for the V551, either. But Motorola did say Q3 for a release timeframe, and we're already well into that. It is possible for a phone to move from FCC approval to market very quickly. I've seen phones for sale as little as four days after the FCC green light.
As for more specific release dates, what's here in the article and on the phone pages is the latest, most specific info I have.
