What makes you think a carrier will buy?

I've heard and think it would be much more likely that a cable company would make this purchase, like Comcast.

If Qwest were smart they would try and move in for this one too. Lots of CDMA and spectrum for growth, and they could sell off towers and spectrum from the Alltel GSM network to T-Mobile and AT&T for GSM/UMTS expansion to cover the costs of the $30 billion purchase.

Qwest needs to make a bold move soon or they are going to get eaten up.

Doubtful, since Comcast sold it's mobile communications to Cingular several years ago. Why would they want to get back into it? They need to maintain viable alternatives to FiOS from Verizon.

And when exactly did Comcast ever have a wireless division, much less sell it to Cingular?

I've never heard of this but if you could show some proof I would stand corrected.

Even if they did at one time sell off a wireless division, it is not unheard of for a company to go back on a previous decision. In order to compete in tomorrow's market, companies are going to have to be able to offer the bundled packages like Verizon, AT&T and Qwest can.

Qwest is a MVNO under Sprint.

And Comcast is in talks with Sprint as their mobile provider to launch a Quad-Play of media services.

they already have a deal in place that would give Comcast a "Quad Play" and yes its also a MVNO of Sprint.

Quest does not have the resources to fund such a takeover as they have a lot of debt plus they are not growing that much. I actually think companies should wait until Q goes chapter 11 and then pay $.10 on the dollar.

Why a carrier would buy? Simple because of the consumer base and the spectrum that Alltel has. Alltel is continuing to see expansion in their markets while the other carriers not so much. There will also be synergies.

Comcast will not buy out Alltel, because it does not make sense. They have that JV with Sprint why would they need to spend $30B for Alltel when the JV is a lot cheaper than that.

nextel you are right again. She sounds like someone that works for quest and is hoping for something better. they have so much debt and if I may make a prediction...... Verizon or ATT buys Quest for prob .25 on the dollar... you and me both don't believe someone will really get .10 on the dollar do you???

I do not know but Quest has been doing better but let us gives them $.25 on the $1 instead of the $.10 on the dollar I mentioned earlier.

A year ago, I think they were worthless, perhaps this year they are, but at least they are doing something right. I still think they will go chapter 11 before someone buys them.
