Best Buy To Open More Mobile Locations
What's the point (for us consumers)
I think this is a great idea and cannot wait for them to open stores like this up across the United States.

And screw all the locally owned agents, eh?
Well...that could definitely be a problem.
This is a whole new effort, done in partnership with Carphone Warehouse, a very successful chain of cell phone stores in the UK. They're experts at selling phones the right way.

The point for us consumers is to give us more choices and lower prices. I have a good friend that currently works in the cell phone department for Best Buy, and he showed me how much lower Best Buy offers consumers phones than the regular Sprint, Verizon, and Cingular stores. For example, an "enV" phone at Best Buy was $99.99 last week and it is still $149.99 (after rebates) at the VZW store.

This will definitely put a crimp in the "Mom & Pop" type cell phone stores that are pretty prevalent.
Their will always be mall hustlers selling this or that. People need to stop thinking that Private owned stores and kiosk are shady. PEOPLE ARE SHADY!. Corporate, Best Buy and In-directs alike. Why would you want a good small business to fail? A business that currently provides 14 college students a good paying Part time job while they go to school. Just as many horror stories come out of corporate and best buy stores as do in-directs.
People that are shady are the ones that cause problems. Not the stores themselves.
Best Buy: It's like WalMart but with carpet!
It won't hurt our store too much. We have a pretty loyal customer base that has been coming to us for years.
I don't see much of a difference though, because in my store the cell phone is essentially a store within a store, just a different department, and it has mp3s with it.
Best Buy is a great alternative for cell phones because, at least in my store, they are hardly any waits. One of the biggest hassels is waiting an hour and a half to get a cell phone, whereas Best Buy is usually in and out within 25 minutes.
Pricing is also a bit better. Since we're not on commission, it seems as if our pricing is lower (i.e. the enV as someone stated) and the biggest thing to me is no mail in rebated. Best Buy rid themselves o...
