Yeah, but think about it .. all of the Americans in Japan who are there for non-business things are probably 1) able to at least partially speak Japanese, 2) Japanese-fanboy enough to want a Japanese phone more than an American phone anyway, and/or 3) VERY unlikely to use an American service's international calling plan over a Japanese regular service.
Sprint would definitely lose money if they were to try breaking anywhere into Japan's market.
