“The new Unlimited by Boost calling plan is available in Dallas, where Leap Wireless International Inc. does not offer service but MetroPCS Communications Inc. does. The service is also available in some central and eastern Texas and northern and southern California markets where both Leap and MetroPCS offer service. The markets are notable because in January Sprint Nextel’s Forsee said that the carrier likely would offer unlimited service only in areas where Leap and MetroPCS did not already operate.”

I highly doubt it will be all over the Sprint network but will focus on those areas mentioned above.

Agreed Nextel18.

But you have to look at this
MetroPCS stated out with only local market unlimited and you can roam in there different markets with travel talk 45 dollars.

SouthernLINC Has a 4 state coverage unlimited minutes 69.99.

Leap Unlimited minutes on any of their markets for 50 dollars a month.

AMPD mobile 115 unlimited minutes on the entire Verizon network (only).

BOOST now has started no details on network yet Unlimited minutes this where the game can turn around to verizon and cingular.
------
The other thing you have to look which is another sign of unlimited plans are the ones where you can choose your numbers that you want to call unlimited with.

T-mobile and Alltel are the only ones that are doing that now...

I beg to differ about the last paragraph...ATT wireless was a sinking ship, they offered customers tons of minutes for a small price, and lost money. I think that carriers have recognized that in order to be profitable, they need to foucus on data, THAT is what drives ARPU up and makes shareholders happy. They could care less that you have 60 million customers that aren't spending any money, they want to see a return!

As far as "the big issue" being Cingular and Verizon, I say let the little guys fight it out for the table scraps, we don't need to compete with them, we have superior networks and competitive price plans and the customer base to prove it.....Yes I work for Cingular but I gotta give VZW their props 🙂

We havent seen any prices dropped lower. Instead we seen increased prices with horrible customer service. And your attitude has pretty much proved that there no other choice we have to with you no choice.

Very well said. Unlimited plans are going to effect the carriers that depend on offering low minutes to survive. The T-Mobiles, US Cellulars, Sprint (in some cases) etc. Not bashing, it's the truth. Cingular, I must give you your props as well.

Why? Again, just because tmo wants to get some customers, or because they want to retain their current customers that they are losing at a rapid pace, that means all carriers have to follow suit? I don't think so.

Hey regine, I never said that tmo is losing customers currently, but they really can't stay competitive if they don't roll out 3g sometime soon, and they really can't stay profitable with their current rate plans. You can argue with me all you want, but i'm not going to post every day, i'm too busy for that. Have fun arguing with other people on this forum.

Actually, there is AT&T Unity Wireless, in which you can call any AT&T customer, wireline or wireless, with unlimited minutes.

I wouldn't be surprised if Verizon started something like this. Although, it may be harder since they have to split wireless profit with Vodafone.

Interesting. Good points. If the economics is there, then you would see many companies starting to roll out those types of plans.

The big thing is the economics of the thing. What will happen to the ARPU and profitability if the carriers go to unlimited minutes?
Something may have to give and that may be handset subsidies. Metro PCS and Leap do not subsidize their handsets to the same degree as the big 4 do. It could tighten credit requirements and increase residual roaming rates.
Keep in mind that Cricket and Metro PCS only offer unlimited minutes on their own networks. You pay to use other networks.

Data will be a huge push. Because it will be the only revcenue growth stream.

I can see unlimited minutes for $100.00 if roaming is included, $50.00 if it isn't.

Agreed SPCSVZWJeff,

But one thing I don't expect unlimited over night we probably still looking at 3-5 years before that will happened but I do think were on the right track for it to happen. But one thing that will change is Data which is what we will soon be talking on VOIP. On some networks you can already use Skype which is VOIP on the unlimited data network with a PDA phone. Just some thoughts.

Well obviously ARPU would come down but at least it would provide another revenue stream but more important they can offer data to those customers. Another reason could be that the MOUs would go up which also could increase their revenue. Boost is very successful at this type of thing as they have the highest ARPU in the prepaid industry so it should be interesting how successful it becomes.

Uhh for those who say that the national carriers do not loose market share to the "little" guys who offer unlimited plans...Why is Metro PCS the #1 carrier in all of Florida in terms of number of subscribers??
All of their customers aren't new wireless customers...the majority came from the "big carriers". Also, why was Metro been the #1 carrier in terms of net adds for Q-1 in Southeastern Michigan?? There is a reason why T Mobile up until recently would not let their dealers carry Metro or Cricket...T Mobile used to be the low cost provider in every market. So don't be naive to think that the "little guys" don't affect numbers...the CEO's and Senior Managers of the carriers will beg to differ!
