I bet they won't have the iDEN counterparts. As far as I know, Sprint is phasing out the Nextel name and network, and slowly migrating ("integrating") customers to the CDMA network.

No... IDEN will be phased out... and Walkie Talkie will switch over to QChat... which runs on the Rev. A network... and probably over WiMax in the future. They just need a fast upstream... one that Rev. A and WiMax can provide. Plus... QChat is compatible with Nextel Walkie Talkie users... Soon Sprint and Nextel will be churping each other and ReadyLink will die.

The only one that has pockets deep enough and could get federal approval is probably Comcast... so I don't see how that could affect Sprint service. Besides... Sprint is rolling out WiMax THIS year... yes.. 4G this year... while Cingular is barely rolling out 3G, T-Mobile hasn't even started 3G, and Verizon hasn't even decided on 4G plans yet. Besides... Verizon is going to have their hands full buying Alltel. In terms of tech, Sprint is leading in the US. They just need to fire their advertising team, and get some better retention programs in place to stop the customer bleed they have had the past few quarters.

I'm still not sold on this wiMax being quite as successful as they are touting it to become. Only the future will tell, but like everything else in this industry "June launch" usually means July and I assume "this year" means next. The dilemma I foresee is the handsets, every multi network or GAIT phone produced has been pretty much horrible! Now they want to rely on them full-time, and they are being produced by second rate manufacturers, time will tell.

So, is QChat compatible with ReadyLink? Would PTT users need to switch to a QChat or iDEN phone?
