This would have been a great opportunity for Srint, 2 years ago. Had this come up before the acquisition of Nextel, Sprint would be a much different company than it is today. Network integration would have been a piece of cake, and they wouldn't have lost as many customer's as they have as a result of the merger with Nextel.

On the other hand, this would be a tremendous pick up for Verizon. It would place them back on the top of the wireless industry (until Cingular got hold of T-mobile USA) and all but eliminate Sprint all together. But I don't think Vodofone would let it happen.

And I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be a great idea for Cingular for a couple of reasons. Network integration would suck and take forever. The purchase of...

Cingular can't buy T-Mobile because DT won't sell. T-Mobile makes up 22% of their EBITDA now. They'd be stupid to sell especially since they just spent $4.2 billion on spectrum in the last auction. Just because you want Cingular to buy T-Mobile doesn't mean it's going to happen.

I completely agree. Verizon will also stumble upon obstacles with the Alltel deal. The fact that Vodaphone owns them almost prevents them from the acquistion completely.

Tmobile DT will not sell Tmobile USA to Cingular. Tmobile USA is way to valuable to DT. Don't forget that Tmobile DT is the 2nd largest carrier in the world. Tmobile USA makes a good portion of DT's profits. Not to mention that the FDC or federal government wouldn't allow that type of monopoly/conglomerate. That would mean ATT, Cingular, Tmobile and Bellsouth would all be in one company. That definitely would not be great for the wireless industry and consumers.

Come on guys a dollar is a dollar.. all that matters to the white suites is how much money they are making. They don't care about you the consumer at all. Point is if "DT AKA as Tmobile" stands to make a buck they would sell. Never say never!

Cingular and T-Mobile are basically partnered anyway. Pretty much where one company has service and the other doesn't, they are roaming partners.

Except in the Carolinas. T-Mobile ended the roaming agreements in those states with Cingular and started the same agreements with SunCom.

T-mobile didn't end their agreements with Cingular/AT&T. Cingular/AT&T swapped networks with Suncom Giving SunCom the Carolinas and Cingular/AT&T getting all of the Virginias. Hence T-mobile had to sign with SunCom, and thanks god for that, SunCom they needed some kind of positive revenue stream.

Dude, Cingular is getting rid of their CDMA service, by 2008. Cingular is out of the question. Verizon is buying them.

Actually, Cingular is getting rid of TDMA service. Cingular, is however, overlaying their network with Wideband CDMA, as HSDPA, but that CDMA is not compatible with the various stages of CDMA 2000 that Verizon uses.
