Skype is full of crap

Skype doesn't care about being able to use any phone on any network because this can already be done. Not too long ago a law was passed saying that phones were no longer allowed to be locked by the carriers. What does this mean? It means you can use any phone on any service as long as it uses the same technology, meaning cdma or gsm. It's actually farely simple, even for cdma phones. Now in order to use the data services you do need to get the phone flashed over and that is for cdma or gsm phones and only costs about $10-$30 to do. All Skype cares about is making money.

That's actually incorrect. If you'll read the ruling and the articles about it more carefully, you'll find that carriers are still allowed to lock phones all they want. They are not obligated to leave phones unlocked or provide unlock codes when requested.

What the ruling does do is makes it (or confirms it as) not illegal for people to attempt to unlock phones on their own.

That makes sense but still its only like 30 bucks to get it flashed which will unlock the phone. There is also websites to get them unlocked for free but i wouldn't trust those sites. But the point is its all about money for them.

Just simply flashing the phone will not guarantee unlocking it.

Right but what i'm saying is its like 30 dollars to get the phone unlocked and flashed whether its gsm or cdma. I actually have a friend who does that for a living. You just take your phone into his shop and he does it right there. He charges a little more than 30 but I have seen it advertised on other sites for 30 and less. You can check out his website, it's www.unlockdoctor.com. Unfortunately he's only located in Colorado Springs but he's hoping to go big.
