Why would anyone want to try and use a GSM phone on a CDMA network?

Are you saying that a phone designed for Verizon's network, ie. CDMA, cannot work on say Sprint's CDMA network or Alltel's CDMA network or US Cellular's CDMA network or Cellular One's CDMA network (should I go on)???? How do you think roaming works?

I'm really confused now. But, clearly you have more experience in this area than I do so I will be quiet now before you make a bigger fool of yourself.
