Curious if an upgrade from WM5 is possible on current generation of the Moto Q and others.

I doubt this is something that can be upgraded to with a windows mobile handset. Most likely, it will be used with handsets still in development instead of 5.0.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the next version of the Cingulaar 8525 (HTC Hermes), hopefully we'll know something about the next version during 3GSM, next week, but WinMo 6 will definetly be in HTC's next SmartPhone.

I don't really know all that much about Windows Live. So I don't know what the benefit is of having tight integration with it is, if annyone knows anything about Windows Live, please give me a quick rundown, I'd like to knows it's benefits.

It's extremely rare that versions get updated on any phone. Ususally they just come out with a new model so you have to fork over another 300-500 bucks for a new one. That said, I am hoping the 8525 gets an upgrade option since it just came out.

Exactly why would gates and co. and all the cellular phone carriers want you to keep the same old handset when they announce a new phone OS.

Exactly my point. They just spent all this money by investing in an upgrade. No return on the investment if they let you download a software upgrade unless they charge you for it but that wouldn't make as much money as you buying a new $300-$500 phone.

It has happened before where upgrades were made available, but I am not holding my breath.
I am pleased about the change though. I've always felt that the PDA phones were too PDA-like without the ease of use the Smartphones have. I own both and while I enjoy both type I can get around my Smartphone twice as quick as my 8525. The jury is still out on version 6 of course but it does sound promising.

With 5.0 there was a window during which one could upgrade at no charge on certain devices. I know this was the case with the i730 on VZW, I assume other carriers/phones did something similar.
