They may just be getting started here in the US, but Pantech is right up there with Samsung and LG as a top Korean phone maker. In 2005, Pantech actually beat LG in market share on their home turf in Korea.

Yeah, but that comparison is not even fair...Samsung has close to 50% market share in the South Korean market with the rest split between LG, Pantech and VK.

As for this phone...It looks like a Samsung M500??

I think the comparison with LG is definitely fair. Both Pantech and LG are major players in Korea. They're not #1 like Samsung, that's true, but they're also not no-name companies there, either.

A few years ago, LG was a no-name company in the US, now they're a big name in phones here.

Now Pantech is trying to do the same thing. Who knows how successful they will be, but with a decent footing in Korea (at least in market share) I wouldn't just dismiss them by saying "Why do they even make phones??". That's what I was responding to.

Well, that's what happens when you sell a car on U.S. soil using colleges as your distribution network, and college students as your salesmen.

And THEN go belly up.

I'm sure parts are hard to come by.

That was rude of me, then...I apologize.

I still see them (the originals sold in the late nineties) on the road and wonder if they're any good.
