Re: A non-fanboy's take on the Iphone
These newer devices beat iPhone in all areas except browsing experience. Nokia's S60 Browser is just as capable - it is developed off Apple Safari's Web Kit, but with Flash Lite support (unlike Safari). However, iPhone just has a better user experience with touch screen. Main disadvantages of iPhone that most people don't know are...
- Apple locks this device to iTunes. You can't download all those cool freebies floating around in Cyberspace (vids, walls, tones, podcasts, e-books, etc.).
- No Video Capture and poor camera - Nokia N95 does 30fps VGA video (almost dvd quality)
- Digital Keypad - Many complaints of frustration
iPhone is definitely a game changer though. It has other OEM's on their toes now.
Problem is the US cell carriers. They're not picking up high-end OEM devices (probably due to cost). They keep releasing 100's of handsets a year as cheap as possible to keep their production lines moving. They also, sometimes force OEMS to remove features from phones as not to disrupt their any of their data/voice revenue streams (i.e. Wi-Fi, VOIP).
iPhone is simply the new RaZr - which was a horrible device with a cool form-factor.
