Cingular Launches First 3.6 Mbps HSDPA Handset
Speeds ONLY advertised @ 400-700kbps
On Cingular's website, they advertise data cards at speeds of 400-700kbps (speeds that are 10yrs old!!!!)
I see know where on Cingular's website advertised speeds of 1.8mbps? ! ? ! ? ! ?
If Cingular starts advertising 3.6mbps air cards, I'll jump on it, but I'm not interested in this theoretical crap, only average speeds, and REAL WORLD speeds!!!!
Theoretical, NOT good enough!!!
Of course you're not going to tell people to expect 1.8mbps at all times. Verizon and Sprint do the same thing with their EV-DO network.
I can careless about theoretical speeds, only average speeds, that's not that the 875 is a 3.6mbps air card, . . . but what speeds does it do in the REAL WORLD????????

I don't have an aircard, still WAITING for TRUE broadband! ! ! I'm just commenting on Cingular's website advertising average speeds of 400-700kbps.

i have a Dell D620 laptop with UMTS built in, and i pull about 912k down consistently
How's video on the internet at that speed?
So is what your saying is that it's actually slightly better than what is advertised?
If you don't mind me asking, what city do you live in that your getting 912k?
i was able to watch a hockey game using TVU with no buffering/stuttering. i tested a couple of larger downloads to see what a sustained transfer rate would look like and it was very steady.

basically was getting this result evertime i ran it at various times for 5 days. +/- 10k

What city is Mariette close to? Atlanta?
Also, which data card do you have?
yes, suburb about 20 mins north of Atlanta.
using the onboard UMTS device in a Dell 620 Laptop (Dell Wireless 5500 Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Minicard Modem)
So on average, are the speeds slighly higher than what is advertised as average?
Thanks for your input.

What are your speeds like right in Atlanta?

i actually don't live there, and didn't use it downtown. i would imagine it would be the same or better since Cingular's corp HQ is downtown.
in comparison to 400-700k as an advertised speed, then yes, i was consistently getting higher than that.
we won't have 3G here (Buffalo, NY) until May/June, then i will be able to give an updated review of my speeds.
Well, thanks for your input.
I get a bonus check in November, I'm thinking about maybe getting the next version to the Cingular 8525, I'm sure I can use that as a modem.
I live in Las Vegas by the way, and Las Vegas was one of the original cities that HSDPA was launched in.
I'm looking forward to seeing what advancements/improvements there will be on the next version of the Cingular 8525

Jay, you should do a little more research:

The cards are available and true, the network is not turned up to 3.6 yet but will be soon as Cingular has several new devices hitting the market this year that are HSDPA 3.6.
Do you, yourself own this Option GT Max 3.6?
I'm just wondering what the "REAL WORLD SPEEDS ARE"
I'd be very interested in a review.
Mite you know a site that has a review of this aircard and it's real world speeds?
How does video look @ that speed?
So are you saying it is slightly higher than the 400-700kbps advertised?
I live in Las Vegas, one of the original 3G cities.

I don't know what the deal is with this 1.8mbps stuff, and "soon" to be upgraded to 3.6mbps once more handsets are available.
