For something once heralded as the next coming of computer greatness...it's sure fizzled without as much as a whimper.

Open source stuff certainly does have the potential to be far superior to it's propriety equivalent, but it will never have the financial back to wage a campaign of brand saturation. At least, not anytime soon. The combining of the 2 biggest Linux development groups, along with a new standardization movement for mobile phone Linux is certainly the start of something big. As to whether it gains market share. . . who knows?

1. The world doesn't KNOW that there is anything to cry out for, because of the aforementioned lack of $$$ and advertising.
2. Linux already has a significant market share in the server market and other corporate environments, and is becoming increasingly popular in mobile devices and other small electronics.
3. Linux has put together some truly innovative and high-quality operating systems. I agree that they are not quite at the "point-and-click" functionality of M$ or Apple, but they are getting darn c...
