Anyone see any preliminary branding yet? I saw an at&t commercial which popped "Cingular, the new at&t' at the end.

Does at&t have the exclusive/endless rights to the 'Cingular' name? Or a better question, do you think the name will ever surface again in the future?

AT&T, which consists of the old Ma Bell AT&T, SBC, BellSouth, and Cingular, does have the rights of Cingular. Cingular was a joint venture between SBC and BellSouth. SBC bought AT&T and took the AT&T name. At this point, Cingular was a joint venture between BellSouth and AT&T. Now AT&T bought BellSouth. Now Cingular is a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T.

Personally, I don't think we will see the Cingular name surface again. Using a brand name for a segment would cause too much confusion, in which there is already a lot of confusion with a lot of customers. There are many customers who may not understand why AT&T Wireless became Cingular and why Cingular is becoming AT&T.

yeah no kidding, a lot of AT&T Wireless customers are still using TDMA phones... They're like way behind... they have so much catching up to do...
