Good point..and well..CDMA cannot offer that..even if they were willing to provide Apple with the means to connect the iPhone to their networks.
Oh...and I don't see VZW breaking their new Phone Standard to get the iPhone...They would not agree to let Apple control everything in regards to their own product. They'd insist on using BREW...which they use to dummy up and cripple the phones..and loose the contract with Apple anyways.
The thing about Apple, they want complete control of their product. This includes what operating system it uses, the software it uses, the applications it comes with, the apparence of the item, and the price of the item.
VZW would not let Apple put OS X on any of their phones...much less the iPhone. They prefer using BREW so they can control what their customers can do. (That's the same reason the G-Mail App remains unavailable on VZW. Along with a LOT of other useful FREE apps.)
