major downside: Phone Not Covered By insurance....

CAD 5000

Yeah, Just in case you forgot if you ever have owned a PDA with Cingular and It is damaged or lost, Their insurance provider will not cover it for replacement. If anyone really wants that phone, Hope that Apple doesn't have an exculsive contract with cingular and go with another company. Because, as we all know the first batch of any new eletronic always has major problems. And if i cannot get coverage on a phone that might break and does.... I will have nothing but a 600 Dollar reason to Hate apple. 😡 (I figure with 250+ comments someone mentioned this but just in case...)

I'm fairly sure phones have warranties, which is what you would need in the case of a defective phone. If the phone simply has some bugs in the initial shipment and you get one, it would be covered under warranty. You'd be an idiot to make an insurance claim and pay the $50 deductible when it's just a simple warranty issue.

You buy the phone... it works for a year, then it stops working, then you are with a year left on your contract and no phone..... this is a problem.

Since Apple is providing the support et al - wouldn't it also make sense that Apple would also offer APPLE CARE for the iPhone!!!!! No need to worry about Cingular and their insurance company. I am sure that Steve J. has already taken this into consideration.

ya thats what i said...if its at apple it must have applecare on its side as an option, and thats a for sure buy, but they say its smarter to buy the applecare towards the end of your manufacture warranty so that you get 3 years extra from that date instead of waisting 1/3 years that u already get from manufacturer from purchase date

Well as I understand it - the Cingular Insurance company doesn't even cover their own "smart phones" that they offer. This will be another consideration for those interested in a smart phone from Cingular. This probably means more business for Apple since they will undoubtedly be offering Apple Care for the iPhone. 😁

I would much rather spend the money on applecare than the joke that is Cingulars "insurance".. at least there is some return on the investment..
