so now that we know all the details or at least most of them about the new Apple iPhone, we should start talking about data plans and their uses, first of all i strongly beleive cingular paid big bucks for apple to come their way, but apple is going to expect some deals and negotiations from cingular so that Apple may hold their name high and proud as they have before with excellent support and service. Now i have t-mobile and a sidekick, im going to venture that apple being exclusive to cingular is going to want to make a special data plan, just like the one hiptop/tmobile made for the sidekicks ($29 for unlimited data/sms), so im going to cross my fingers and pray that they come up with something, data plans can be a bummer when they reach...

I'm not from cingular or anything, but would generally agree.. I went with a smartphone because I need unlimited internet ability, but could not justify the cost of PDA connect. I think it's rediculous. That said, by my understanding of cingular's current system, the iPhone would fall into the PDA market and would then be out of my market. I too hope this doesn't happen. It would be absolutely detrimental to the iPhone, to apple, and thus to cingular. If cingular/ATT can't make the iPhone a huge success, I do believe they'd be the absolute undisputed laughing stock of providers (yes, there currently is still debate by some) It would hurt apple a *lot*, but they'd come out with another in no time on CDMA with verizon and blame the failu...

Dont worry about it. Remember, It has Wi-Fi to connect to the internet ect.. The only real question, is , hopefully , cingular does not cripple the bluetooth, just like how verizon does. Apple had ciingular reconfigure their voicemail and calling infrastructure just for apple.

ya but you cant depend on wifi....and maxx233 actually it falls under the smartphone connect..which is only $19.99, and actually cingular is saying the MEdia Packages will work, such as MEdia Max 3000, thats the plan i will most likely get pretty much what i have on my tmobile dash which is fine for me for $39.99, unlimited multimedia (mms), data and 3000 texts...sounds good, and yes cingular better make a iPhone Data plan even cheaper, this is the biggest product in the history of that company, if they f**k it up they will be screwed, but apple will never give it to verizon (i also have verizon lg vx-9800, but i never use it), because of how much they cripple the phone, it just wont happen at least not for new releases, it will always be on...

Yeah, I'm still worried though. Cingular doesn't instill me with confidence, I'll tell you that much ;) But, you are correct - that visual voicemail I'm *sure* was not any small feat. So I'm sure Apple's got a major hand in everything that's gonna happen with this, which instills me with much more confidence. And dear freakin GOD I'm gonna be so happy to have that new voicemail, cingular's voicemail system is by far the most retarded thing I've ever been cursed to be contracted to.

ok question...this doesnt have a qwerty keyboard(actual), its on screen and doesnt run WM5 so therefore this isnt a pda according to cingular's terms is it? Just wondering.

They're not discussing that yet, because it hasn't been finalized. However Cingular did hint during the press conference that special iPhone data plans were likely.

I just dont want to pay for internet access, I mean if it has wi-fi and I have access to a hot spot, it should be free. Also, Why cant apple put a fully working ichat? and just pay for reg. texts from other carriers.

Really, we should not have the need for a data plan ! just a plan for calls and texts, everything else should be free 😕

ya jobs announced that ichat will be through sms messaging (texts), which im kind of bummed about because my tmobile dash has this and its super super slow, definitly not INSTANT messaging..i kind of wish it was over data like the sidekick

and you wont HAVE to pay for internet access, phone will work with wifi and hotspots as long as you are on the cingular network, unlocking the phone i hear is impossible so dont try it, recoginizes when your not on cingular and locks all features up
