When he said #1 carrier, I think he meant largest in terms of number of subscribers. Can't deny they are the biggest carrier in the US in that sense. Also, Cingular worked with them on the development and signed up for it (and I'm sure paid a huge exclusivity fee) without even seeing the actual hardware.
