First off you mean that AT&T wins, blue, not orange because of course, it is time to change their name AGAIN.

Second, they win yet another inferior device to put on their inferior network that will NEVER catch up to what VZW and Sprint offer now or will offer in the future.

Third, its just another OVERPRICED ($599 with 2 year contract) Apple product. They might learn, one day..

yes but lets see how long they keep them.....
and any way cingular's network is inferior sprint's whole network is ev-do and it is being upgraded to rev. a which is faster by the end of the year and with in the next 2 years they will have wimax released... what does cing. have some slighly slower 3g in the top 100 cities and not even all of those cities and the rest of there network... don't get me started...

Sprint's whole network is definetly NOT EVDO. It is 1x in quite a few places. I believe CDMA is superior to GSM but that simply is not a true statement.

Wowee your a bight one.. EvDo RevA will up the DL to 3.1 mbps and the real benefit of Rev A is the uplink to 1.8Mbps.. so As Cingular rolls out 7.2 Mpbs in the 100 or so 3g markets down and completes the UMTS/HSDPA rollout elsewhere Sprint will still be drifting along with 3.1 tops.. now thats impressive.. oh and you realize that Wi-Max will allow about 10Mbps best case for thier rollout in two years.. By that time.. they will be playing catch up.

Are you going to be carrying around a wi-max antenna with you to maintain Line of sight? No? Then kiss your 70Mbps good bye.. 10 is more realistic and with load it will drop down to accomodate users(like wi-fi).. Sprint themselves stated that 2-4Mbps down is realistic.. which ain't bad.. but isn't really knocking my socks off especially a year+ away..

You guys are comparing oranges to apples! (No pun intended) That 7.2 MBps quote is MAXIMUM! not real world speed folks. https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=19 90
Your Cingular 3G is sailing around 300k according to articles I have read and they don't have anywhere near the broadband coverage that Sprint offers. PC Mag says they have found the current generation to be slower than Sprint and Verizon: (again, less coverage) http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1916281, 00.aspI have an aircard with Sprint and I get anywhere from 500k (at lowest) to 1200k plus occasionally. Usually I am around 600 to 700k which is quite a bit faster than Cingular's 300k that isn't as widely available. Wimax's max is around 70 Mbps, but Sprint is sayi...

300K? sure with a ton of traffic.. this guy compares his sprint phone with his blackjack..and pulling >900K
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Sm_ffE21L-M »

And if you browse to hofo you can see a gigantic thread of people pulling >1/Mbps on the 3.6/mpbs version of cingy's hsdpa..and they haven't even rolled 7.2 out yet!

And 70mps is the theoretical max for Wi-Max.. Line of sight! Like I said.. are all the sprint folk going to be carrying around Wimax towers with them?

in responce to Dead_psycho1, Better check the maps again, sprint's entire network is NOT EV DO, Only in the large cities, there are so many gaps in Ev-Do, they said the entire network would be by the end of 2006, Now they are just upgrading it all to the REV A so if you are in a market the does not have EV DO yet, you will still have to wait until the large cities get REV A and they finally get around to us smaller Metro area guys.

Dude, back away from the keyboard. I work for VZW and I'm embarassed by your post. Feel free to throw in a bit of punctuation now and then. And no, emoticons are not considered punctuation.

BTW, I'm an apple fiend and terribly jealous that Jobs is jobbing everyone except Cingy. But one phone is not going to make or break a company, especially one that's $500. You might be able to pass off that price for something business related, but that's awful steep for a touch-screen iPod with a phone without 3G. We'll have to see what Samsung, Sanyo, LG, and Moto come up with in the next six months leading up to the launch. They might have a competitor already on a drawing board. And apple might open up the field with a CDMA version in two...

whatever company it is should watch what they make and not infringe on the 200+ patents Jobs placed on this deviced...i think phone companies wont be making anything close to this phone for years to come, they could get in a lot of trouble especially when Jobs says "we have over 200 patents on this device, and we are going to defend them"...i beleive it

Actually, at&t won, not AT&T... Cingular bought out AT&T WIRELESS... then Cingular's parent company, SBC/BellSouth, bought out AT&T landline and DSL. SBC/BellSouth decided to keep the AT&T name instead of Cingular/SBC/BellSouth because it is more widely known. If you look at any of the new marketing, you'll notice that they no longer capitalize AT&T.

So, to be correct, GOLD, not orange, not blue, wins.

well..at&t, when representing Cingular, stated the logo will be orange.

And NUMBER TIME:

(Home Networks only guys...except T-Mo..their to afraid to present home network data.)

Cingular:
Voice Coverage: 270 Million
Data Coverage: 250 Million (EDGE) - 70 Million (HSDPA)
(HSDPA phones can use EDGE data.)

VZW:
Voice Coverage: 255 Million
Data Coverage: 150 Million

Sprint:
Voice Coverage: 295 Million (PCS) - 264 Million (iDen)
Data Coverage: 158 Million

T-Mo:
Only states they can cover a potential of 275 Million people, but thats when including their roaming agreements--which includes Cingular.

So Sprint has the largest Network overall. However, Cingular has the largest all dig...

Actually, in terms of profitability which is a very good indicator of future growth, Verizon is winning.

But why did you have to start yet another baseless troll. Who cares.

Not to mention competition is good, very good. It keeps our technology new, our customer service responsive and our plans affordable. Do you really want to go back to the days of one or two regional carriers and 2 buck a overage charges?

what a marketing mind f***! cingular is so ambiguous with their marketing tactics! they keep changing their name, as if to run away from previous names and their reputations. its sickening, just like their coverage map(see Dictionary..look up ambiguous...you'll see a pic of cingy's coverage map), it shows coverage that you can only get with an old tdma handset! what confusion for the uninformed.
