So....Im sure you have all heard about the newest and most exciting phone that will be hitting the market. Ah yes you say...the new Apple Phone!!! Well this thing sounds amazing, but there are some definite downsides to the manufacturing of this phone. But Ill wait til there is one in my hands to demo before I get into that. The #1 problem with this phone as of now is what carrier it is launching on. CINGULAR??????What in Gods name would posses them to pick Cingular. Mine as well have picked Revol to carry the damn thing. Guranteed this phone does not hit its full potential until it is on the proper network to not only support the market that this phone is targeted at, but to have a carrier that will be able to provide a reliable service for...

I would hope you would say that with not only sarcasm but with heavy sarcasm....I love how Cingular does "their" consumer report by their own personally funded review group. The national Consumer Report for 07 that I had access to weeks ago clearly shows Alltel is #1 across the board. Then followed by Verizon and T-Mobile....Cingular only showed its face in the bottom 3 in only a few select areas....Fewest dropped Calls??...well yes thats true because its hard to drop a call when your phone wont let you make one, ha, funny how that works

Telephia is not personally funded. they are an independant research company, and they perform tests on ALL carriers. if they came out and said Verizon had the fewest dropped calls, all the Verizon people would come on here and say how their own research is backed up by an independant firm, but they can't so everyone who's anti-cingular has to bash them.

Wow, you must live in the one area (San Francisco) that has decent coverage for Cingular! 😁 Here's what the Boston Globe said when they did some research on the subject:

Cingular's massive, multimillion-dollar national advertising campaign is based on data from ``the leading independent research company," which Cingular officials have identified as Telephia of San Francisco. Neither Cingular nor Telephia have released data backing up the assertion.

Telephia Inc.'s president, Sid Gorham , sent a letter to the four major wireless companies in May saying Cingular had a ``statistically significant lower dropped-call rate than the competition across some market/time period groups," but noted that his company never analyzes its own data and...

Sprint said this, Sprint said that..those aren't facts, that is what they claim.

first of all, the data is available, but you have to pay for them. this is how telephia makes their money.

second, at the time these tests were being conducted, 3/4 of the phones in cingular's inventory had external antennas (except nokia bars).

third, the T720 SUCKED with reception, so if that was that really was the only phone they used and got the results they did, i could only imagine what the results would have been like with a GOOD phone.

fourth, Sprint can claim they ONLY use that one phone, but in other results there was mention of using multiple phones from all carriers.

fifth, no i don't live in San Fransisco, i live in NY State, an...

However, its still better than VZW only going onto major streets and highways where they know they have coverage to test it.

exactly..Consumer Reports mags and the like are based on what customers have to say at that time....

That does not mean that 15 days after the survey..and when the return policy is up that those same customers are still happy with their choice of carrier...and they have to wait till the NEXT year to complain on Consumer reports...so instead they begin complaining in MASSES on websites like hearusnow.org (Consumers union site.) And places like here...where when they offer a genuine complaint...they are either forced to re-think their complaint and love their carrier again by people who can be brainwashed sales people for said carrier. Or left out to hang in the sun...beaten down by those same sales people who again..might be brainwashed i...

When he said #1 carrier, I think he meant largest in terms of number of subscribers. Can't deny they are the biggest carrier in the US in that sense. Also, Cingular worked with them on the development and signed up for it (and I'm sure paid a huge exclusivity fee) without even seeing the actual hardware.

along with agreeing to the massive, strict terms, that apple demands of all its partners..

Some of these terms include things like full control...including control of price, OS, structure.

A customer's first, clean apparence approach. Thinking about your customers first. Clean stores, clean business practices..the list goes on.

Customer service..on all Apple related products, Customer service belongs to Apple, and customers should be referred to Apple when the partner cannot answer the question. Partners must also focus on providing the best customer service and experience possible.

You literally have to be "perfect" to work with Apple.

Lets see..checking for Alltel Service in NY, Miami, Seattle, Houston, oh and LA.

Wait...they don't serve ANY OF THESE CITIES. When can a consumer report..(again..its "Customers praise their buying decision before being able to truly experience it...and have to relay advertising hype that was force fed to them.")..that says a carrier that DOESN'T OFFER SERVICE TO MOST MAJOR CITIES providing true, factual information.

Oh wait, It's because most the ppl that participated in that poll live in the sticks...(no pun intended)

Good point..and well..CDMA cannot offer that..even if they were willing to provide Apple with the means to connect the iPhone to their networks.

Oh...and I don't see VZW breaking their new Phone Standard to get the iPhone...They would not agree to let Apple control everything in regards to their own product. They'd insist on using BREW...which they use to dummy up and cripple the phones..and loose the contract with Apple anyways.

The thing about Apple, they want complete control of their product. This includes what operating system it uses, the software it uses, the applications it comes with, the apparence of the item, and the price of the item.

VZW would not let Apple put OS X on any of their phones...much less the iPhone. They...

Mind you..Apple choose the carrier with the largest customer base...not to mention a carrier that does have the largest digital voice AND data network. As it stands...Cingular is #2 in voice coverage, yet #1 in DATA coverage. According to an article on Yahoo! tech that I only posted here a few thousand times. (sarcasm)

http://tech.yahoo.com/blog/null/3554 »

Lets go through this again:
(I only count the home network.)

Sprint:
Voice Coverage: 295 Million + (CDMA) -- 264 Million (iDen)
Data: 158 Million

Cingular:
Voice Coverage: 270 Million
Data Coverage: 250 Million(EDGE) -- 70 Million (HSDPA)
(Note HSDPA phones can access data on the EDGE Network. Many EVDO phones cannot use 1xRTT Data--or its unavailable.)

Verizon:

well theres is nothing wrong with cingular, being that it is the biggest carrier within the United States. The only thing that i wish to argue is that to purchase the iphone you will need a 2 year contract with cingular Being myself a cingular customer this makes it a little difficult to do, non the less it is not impossible. To find out how to do so email me. Thank You

You should be able to upgrade and renew your contract and get it for the same price. If not, just port your number out to a different carrier after your contract is up and then port it back to Cingular with a new account within the other carrier's trial period.

wow thats like $400 in cancellation fees to cancel 2 phone companies...lol, when you renew your contract when your already in a contract thats not over, the price will be higher it always is, for example i had a tmobile dash for 4 months on a 1 year contract, i wanted the new dash when it came out 4 months after i got my sidekick, i had to restart the 1 year plan, and instead of the phone being at $299 for an additional 1 year i had to pay $349, $50 more because my contract didnt end yet

That's why I said if your contract is over, which means no ETF. And to cancel within the other carrier's trial period, which also means no ETF.

I figured APPLE wanted to introduce their iPhone not only on an all digital network but also the largest one in the US not to mention that it is a GSM Network and the only other carrier that you could even mention would be T-Mobile which is defintely NOT a fair comparision to Cingualr.

Well then where are they??? On a reginal or the business men on Nextel???? I don't figure Apple wanted to bring out a Direct Connect iPhone. I guess that if those with the money want it they will come to Cingualr and get it. I figure that Cingular will benefit from the iPhone becuase some of that crowd will be drawn to it by the iPhone. Maybe you forget how many people switched to Cingualr just to have a Moto Razr and that is HALF the phone of the iPhone.

*smirks* funny...the bigwigs and employees at Microsoft use Cingular (havent seen any employee plans for VZW there..and a mere 13% employee discount--some use Sprint due to the 25% discount)...same goes for the bigwigs and employees at Apple..and Boeng--oh right you didn't get the memo--due to lack of service in key locations for Boeng Corp.--At their new corporate offices in MI..and a few other plants. They began ending their employee contracts with Verizon and switching over to Cingular. (I got that memo, and letter.)

And lets face it...anyone see T-Mo offer business discounts anywhere..except for their own employees?

I see more business people and people with money walking around with their Cingular phones. Getting the best phones...
