or you lose it, you're screwed. Last time I checked Cingular won't insure a phone this expensive. 🤣

it wont be through cingular..itll be through apple, everything is surrounded by apple including service/support/sales (but you can buy the phone at a cingular store), i wouldnt be surprised if they place an applecare product on this device optionally, im sure it will include a 1 year warranty as well...Apple is good with their support, actually very good best ive seen in almost all companies

But I'm talking about water/physical damage and loss/theft. Is Apple's warranty going to cover that?

well...i sure hope so, ive had 3 macbooks already, once spilled water in a bottle on it, second caught on fire when my friend lit a cigarette (dont ask bad experience), and third my laptop almost got stolen guess the guy dropped it and put it back, had a big gash and broken lcd....got replaced within a week all 3 times...so im gonna guess that if they have an applecare available for extra $$ everything should be covered, but if i would get insurance from cingular to be safe as well, im sure apple will cover it either way, just dry it and bring it in and say u didnt know it just stopped working hahaha, they usualyl dont check just exchange there, thats why i love apple they do it on the spot, phone companies usually have to go through insuran...

haha neither did i...i thought it was just nice when they changed it when i dropped water...but when it caught on fire....very shocked to see it be exchanged for a brand new unit....as long as your in the 1 year warranty you are safe with apple, thats why im so glad they are taking care of all the claims with support/service and not cingulars insurance company, thats always a drag with any cell phone company, cell phone insurance sucks haha, and hopefully iphone will have that applecare option too for an additional 3 year warranty for like $100 or so

I like that better than the idea of the phone being covered by cingular.... nevermind then.

ya, if it was covered by cingular i wouldnt buy it...that phone is too worthy and expensive to have those goons covering it with their cheap insurance companies...thank God its through apple

You could just be careful with it. I've had several cell phones over the past 8 years, multiple handheld gaming systems, a Zune, several portable music (non-MP3) players, and I've never broken one of them, gotten one wet, lost one, etc. It really isn't that difficult. I don't know why people always act like it's really hard to take care of things they carry around with them @_@

This was covered somewhat during Cingular's iPhone press conference.

Apple and Cingular will be offering joint support.

Support teams will be cross-trained, so basic things can be covered by either team, but if you call Cingular with an advanced technical question about iPhone, they'll do a warm transfer to an iPhone support person at Apple.

The warranty, etc. will be handled by Apple. Most phones have a one-year warranty, as do most Apple products, so that would be a safe assumption.

yay...and that means applecare should be involved somewhere for additional warranty, i wonder how apple will handle stolen/lost phones...i hope it doesnt go through cingular insurance...i hate deductibles lol...but i also hope apple covers water/accidental damage of that sort by free replacement in the manufacture warranty
