Yes, Cingular's 3G is not 100% yet. But it is working in most major US cities already. I'll wait for Version 2 for sure.

I agree, bigtime mistake, but then again this is only rev. 1. I'm sure by the summer and fall more phone's will present themselves. Also, while it's cingular only, thats for the US, there's a whole other big planet out there.

uhh 3G sucks you guys need to read into it more..first of all its faster than EDGE but not THAT much faster for crying out loud...second dont hold your breath for a couple years because itll be impossible to fit 3G on a phone with so many features battery life would be eliminated so fast you wouldnt even be able to test the network out...so relax i think its better this way

3G may not make a huge difference when you browse on the phone. However, having 3G (EVDO or HSPDA) makes a difference if you tether your phone to your computer as a modem. Further, I can choose to disable 3G and use GSM only to save power when I'm not using it as a modem. At least I have a choice for spending loads of $$$ on a smartphone.

However, some simply don't browse much and this point is moot.

Considering how slow some of the page loads were in the keynote video...with the phone on a Wi-Fi network, people are going to scream bloody murder with the speeds on EDGE.

I'd wait for the HSDPA version to take advantage of that alleged 7.2 MB download speed Cingular says they're going to have.

I have to say that I am very disappointed that it is only EDGE. For a phone of that price that is unacceptable. In response to ebaydan777's comment that Cingular's 3G is "not that much faster", you obviously have not used it for yourself, it is like going from a 56k modem to DSL. As for him saying that 3G drains the battery so fast that you wouldn't even be able to test the network out, that's wrong as well. I was on Amtrak for almost 3 hours yesterday on my way to MacWorld Expo, had my MacBook tethered to my Samsung Sync and had 3G+ (HSDPA) almost the entire ride. The speed is so good I was even able to videochat over iChat and sustained a constant connection of 300kbps both ways, there is no way EDGE can provide speeds anywhere near that. ...

I have to agree with ebaydan777. 3G, whether it is EVDO or HSDPA is incredibly overrated. Not only does it suck the life out of your battery, but it really doesn't make a difference on your phone. (Air Cards are a different story)

I would prefer WiFi over 3G in a second, especially considering that the iPhone has a real html browser.

I welcome HSDPA and I only use Opera Mini and MediaNet on my phone. EDGE is a little frustrating at times. For me the technologies are night and day.

Whatever the reason for the lack of '3G' on an iPhone, I thought it was a gimmie feature.

One product doesn't fit all apparently.

yeah and no removable battery! This thing is sweet, but for the price you would think they would have loked into 3g and offered a removable battery. If you get this thing and use it all the time especially considering all it can do, what happens if you need a new battery down the road! you just srewed?

ya kinda sucks no removable battery, but i used to have a sidekick 2 and that was the same, it didnt bug me i never had problems with it..but your not screwed support will be handled through apple, and if the battery goes bad within a year they will replace it at the apple store in minutes, and if its past 1 year...well just like any other company you just have to PAY for the new battery instead of a free replacement, and once again thatll be done at apple store

thats why this is so great, you dont have to wait for 2-3 weeks and use a loaner phone like other companies/phones, this is all done at apple in minutes

Too bad the choice to put this phone is because of GSM and too bad the choice to put this phone on a network that is behind in wireless high speed came to be. Just hope this does not suck like the iTUNES phone.
