Loyal 2 Apple + Anti Cingular = Aw crap...

Anyone else?

I am a VZW employee. I love my job and the company I work for. I started entry level and have worked my ass off and been rewarded for it. This is my career now, and I am now in a relatively high position with no intention of leaving or "cheating".

I am also a self admitted super-loyal Mac zealot. We have 4 ipods, a Quicksilver G4, a Macbook (2nd on the way), and will soon have a Mac Mini and iTV in the entertainment center. I may even have some windows bashing parody songs still saved somewhere.

I follow the rumors like any other fanboy, but I had convinced myself it wouldn't happen. Mostly because I knew there was no way the partnership would be with Verizon. I wanted to sit down and watch another keynote unfold...

I feel your pain. I'm currently stuck with VZW contract and even though they are the best in the Buffalo/Rochester area, when I saw the iPhone on my apple.com homepage, I was thinking where do I sign over my phone number and switch plans. However since I have other people on my plan, that is not an option right now. I switched over to Apple about three years ago, and have never considered to switch back to the boring crappy black plastic.
The big question,
Who is left to stop apple from taking over the world, (and do we want anyone to). Besides creating video games what can't apple do in the world of consumer electronics?

As slick as this device is, don't forget that it's still like $600 and that prices it out of the range of most people even though it's a convergence device. Further more, in about a years, there's probably going to be like 6 trillion other devices that do something similar for a fraction of the cost.

Apple will probably be at the elite and the forefront of this technology and the early adapters and the ultra trendy will run out to buy it, but that doesn't mean everyone will buy it and that apple will take over the world. BMWs are very coveted automobiles but that doesn't mean everyone has one.

I agree with the original poster, I've been VERY loyal to Apple, but I'm not a Cingular client, and I can help it, I won't ever be. I use T-mob and I'm thinking ... it works on their GSM network, will it work on mine? I just started reading about the new handset, so we'll see. Relax everybody, we are six months away from the release.

oh first untrue...200 patents on the device..theyve already gotten ripped of with windows vista they wont let windows or any other company screw them over with similar ideas i can assure you with that, that was a huge part of the keynote presentation showing they had over 200 patents that they will enforce. Second...screw verizon man i know you work for them but so what keep it at home haha just like the VP of microsoft said he would own a mac if he didnt work for windows...well own a iphone working for verizon big deal, but i guess your worse case scenario is to wait till 2009 when cingular loses its exclusion to the phone and probably travel to CDMA, maybe....but by then im sure a new iphone will be out version 2, and itll be on cingular a...

Samsung and LG will so make a copy of this device. Patents are not going to stop them. They copied the razr like pie. They will do it. Maybe even before the Iphone comes out. Won't that be lovely!!! 🤣

Yea this phone might suck. If apple somehow found a way to put 8 gigs and no slowdown, freezing, or crappy call quality.. then I will change my post. If they did make a great phone good but g'luck selling a phone slash ipod for 600 bucks!!!

Verizon is evil and the antithesis of everything Apple stands for. Thanks god for Cingular. Also in Western NY, Verizon brainwashes people on the quality of network. Switched from Verizon in 2004 and couldn't be happier with Cingular!

With Cingular changing it's name and logo to AT&T, it is now a "Big Blue" company just like IBM.... the antithesis of Apple. See I can crazy post too.

I'm an Apple fan and Anti-VZW, because of my history with them. I love Cingular and hold them high, because they're the best carrier I've ever had, and they have the best coverage where I live (and then some). I posted this deep in a reply to another post, but I'll repost it here because it seems like the most civilized forum post in regards to the news 😛

As for Sprint of Verizon ever getting it, I sincerely doubt that. Sprint, Verizon and the other CDMA carriers have recently gotten the SLVR, but it doesn't have iTunes. I'm pretty sure the phone will stay exclusive to Cingular (until some genius manages to unlock it, but I doubt that'll happen any time soon given that the phone runs a smart OS), whether they paid for it or Apple just l...

On a side note, it would be very smart on behalf of Apple to produce this phone not just for Cingular, but for the other carriers as well. Why? Because then everyone will want one, and everyone can have one. 🙂

Cell phone service is important to you base on on two things. 1. Where you live. and 2. Who you call. If Cingular works where I live, I'd switch. However, I've got to convince all 15 of my co-workers, my wife, my parents, and my grandmother for crying out loud to switch. Carriers perform differently wherever you live. I've stood in the same room with two different providers and one works and the other don't. Vice versa in another location. I'm torn. I'm happy with VWZ, but I NEED my Apple products!
