I hate getting into the whole CDMA vs GSM debate. The fact is that both of them have their strengths and weaknesses. One is only "better" than the other if it serves YOUR needs.
That being said, it makes all the economic sense in the world to make this phone GSM. Simply put: if it's CDMA, you can sell to the nation; if it's GSM, you can sell to the world.
