Exclusive to Cingular??
...
It's GSM, yes, and it's Cingular branded. That doesn't mean other carriers wont get it a few months later.
It is only GSM though.
...
Maybe this is why the V3i is getting discontinued...
...
the v3i isn't going anywhere for a quite a few months. there are multiple orders open to motorola in otiva through the end of feb.
...
no other carrier will get this phone for a while, that's the point of an exclusive agreement. cingular locked this up until 2009 is what i've been hearing. if anybody knows better, let me know!
...
yup, locked until 2009 for 2 year exclusive agreement, and by then version 2 will be out for iphone and will once again be a 2 year agreement onto cingular, might as well switch now or you will be a phone away always
...
Not nessecarily... I mean Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo, and LG are not going to be walked over on this phone...
The RAZR came out and all the other carriers stepped up and offered better slim phones just like the RAZR. I'm sure the other companys are going to come up with something... Not everyone can afford a $5-600 dollar phone... Not to mention if they've got to buy it for more than one person... I mean $1200? Ouch... not to mention all the accessory add ons... bluetooth headset, carrying case, car charger to start, and then memory cards... etc... all that for just two people woul be well around $2,000... Can we say water and bread for dinner?
I mean the RAZR became cheap enough eventually that anyone could afford it, so I'm sure...

no the v3i is being discontinued because it was never that great of a phone and its price point was way too high especially with models like the samsung a707 and sony w810i much cheeper and better.
...
gsm+edge and it will ONLY be on cingular read the keynote speech people

Yes. The entire iPhone lineup (yes, lineup) is exclusive to Cingular in the U.S. for at least the next two years. That precludes any CDMA version - I verified that myself during the Cingular iPhone press conference.
In other countries, other GSM carriers will offer it, but with Cingular having a US exclusive, it wouldn't make much business sense for Apple to develop a CDMA version. ...unless they did a Chinese version, but I doubt that, for a number of reasons.
