Why only Cingular?

Why does this have to be only on Cingular? Their service bites in my area. I've had excellent reception with Sprint, plus, I get 25% off my bill AND a bunch of free goodies.

This bites.

I guess I'll wait and hope hope it'll jump over to Sprint within the year.

Forget about Sprint. Sprint operates on an entirely incompatible network.

The other potentially compatible major U.S. network for an unlocked iPhone would be T-Mobile USA. However, Apple signed a multi-year agreement with Cingular making Cingular the exclusive carrier in the U.S. for the time being.

Although I am not currently tied to a service agreement, as long as iPhones require Cingular service, I won't be getting one.

Well, they could do what Palm did, when they came out with the 700. They had a 6 month exclusive agreement with Verizon, I think it was on the 700W. Everyone thought that was it, but a few months later, they launched the 700P on Sprint.

Apple could always launch a different designed phone, or something with different features, on different networks. Personally, I'd like one with keys. Not that I don't like the multi-touch, but, I'd like it less expensive.
