Is that Verizon is cashing in huge on this. We are going to be charged per kilobyte for the banners, and Verizon is charging companies to advertise. Spectacular

I get claustrophobic with the cell-top UI as it is... and they are going to steal some more of it for advertising? I have been reading about impending downloadable customizable UIs from Qualcomm. Has there been talk of inserting ads there as well?

that this announcement is about Mobile Web right? You do not get charged per/kb for Mobile Web. Mob Web deducts airtime, but does not charge you for data. Only Smartphones and PDAs are billed per kb for data usage, and they are not affected by this announcement because they do not use Mobile Web.

Mobile Web on handsets for Verizon does not bill as kb usage, it bills as a data call. A VZW subscriber sees Mob Web sessions on their bill as a call to the number 777-000-0001 for x amount of minutes. The only way that the ads could cause an increase in your bill is if the additional load time causes you to use more minutes.

Verizon is such a big 800 pound gorilla of a company, i wish they would get sued for millions for anti-trust violations or something, this is unbelievable they are charging for ads on their customers web surfing portals.

And better..charging their customers for the usage that gets them onto those portals. It's double the profit for VZW...and nothing to gain for their customers.

Extra clicks, clunkier navigation, waiting for download time of advertisements (on my dime!)... This all spells trouble for the user experience. The ads better load quickly, disappear quickly and be entertaining for the advertising to work. Advertising may well be a necessary evil but the right balance must be found. btw How are they addressing improved UI?
