Why is Cingular so obtuse about their 3G coverage

It seems to me that if Cingular has made such good progress, why can't they have a single nationwide map showing 3G coverage. Their coverage maps only show coverage at the city level, forcing you to look at each city you care about. It smells of making it seem much better then it really is. I know for a fact that there is no coverage in S California or in St Louis. Last I heard, at least one of those 2 was in the top 100. Its the same kind of fluff as their "fewest dropped calls campaign".

On the plus side, it does seem like a great network given the speeds and the ability to have voice and data at same time. They have also done a tremendous job of introducing new smartphones. I will seriously consider switching a year from now whe...

FACT: Cingular has had 3G coverage in Saint Louis since November 2.

I am currently using a LG CU500 and a Samsung BlackJack with absolutely no problems.

Next time check your facts before posting.

Just go to cingular and check there map.. st. Louis has 3g coverage..

But the real question remains.. why are they so obtuse about the coverage? why to i have to zoom up to the city?

Let me explain that a bit:

I'm totally confused by this as well. I work for Cingular, and there is loads of information available, but none of it easy to navigate. The basic reason for this relates to how big the company is and how the management works.

Cingular is still dealing with the merger between the initial 2 companies. . . no, I mean BellSouth Wireless & SBC wireless. There are still 2 totally different billing systems (though there is thankfully, just one provisioning system). Then there's the AT&T wireless merger, which has left the company a mess in many ways. While this doesn't have a lot do to with network development/announcements, it is indicitive of how fractured the company is. Cingular is just too damn big to f...
