Are phones always going to be stuck at 1.8 MBPS? Are there any planned releases for 3.6 MBPS? Does anyone know if hacking is possible on 1.8 phones to get them to 3.6?

it probably 1.8 MBPS because of the hardware

I think Cingular would keep it that way because phone users won't need more than 1.8 even with video services

Not really. Cingular is pretty much caught up with Europe. Did you know that they are also releasing HSDPA? They had UMTS for a while, but just now they are getting HSDPA... 2007 is going to bring many surprises. I can guarantee you that!

I have a ? if yourself, or anyone else knows it, on Cingular's website it says the Sierra Wireless 875 is capable of 3.6mbps, but it says "theoretically" what the heck is this "theoretically" stuff all about??? Either it does 3.6mbps or it doesn't, besides the only speed Cingular currently advertises is 400-700kbps!!! Which is 5yrs old!!!

So what's the truth about the Sierra Wireless 875, do you either have this card, read any user reviews, or know anyone who does have this aircard?

"Theoretical" means you have to be in an area that supports that speed, not to mention getting the signal strength to have it. You can have an HSDPA card in your system, but if you are in the Styx only getting GPRS you are not going to be screaming at the "theoretical" advertised speeds.

So, I live in Las Vegas, which is an HSDPA equipped city, does that mean that if I have the Sierra Wireless 875 aircard, I'll get 3.6mbps in Las Vegas???

Actually, if you're in the Styx you're not going to be getting any coverage because you're dead. 😉
