20 Mhz additional spectrum
if i got it right, in order to effectively use Rev C, you need additional spectrum to get those speeds, but didn't some companies got unused spectrum recently bought from the FCC auction?

actually, that was Rev. B in that 20Mhz example - which is unlikely to happen in reality, even with the additional spectrum recently auctioned off

The problem is that 20 MHZ of spectrum dedicated to just data is virtually impossible. Most carriers only have between 40 and 60 MHZ available for voice and data in most markets and that if they are spectrum rich. The idea of using 20 MHZ just for data is very unreasonable especially since there is so little spectrum to work with even after the FCC Auction. The engineers need to develop a better idea that will work in the REAL WORLD!

I think we are missing the point here, 200mbps speeds are only available by linking 17 CDMA channels. It is more realistic to link 5 or 6 and get peak speeds around 60 to 80 mbps which will be much faster than any technology this side of WIMAX. Probably on a busy network you will see average speeds around 20-40 mbps.
All of this depends on building the right chipsets and the right devices. Without the right devices and network infrastructure these speeds will not happen.

Is it possible that as we get beyond Rev A that everything will actually be data. Meaning the voice will no longer be voice but Voip which is actually data and therefore the carriers can devote all of their spectrum bandwidth to data. If so, maybe 20 Mhz isn't so far out of the question.

Yeah, thats what i was thinking, wireless communications companies should focus their research on bringing their networks to data-only environments, so that the much needed spectrum can be fully harnessed. At this time, we must use our data services without being on a call, but if we are using an all-data service, that may not be necessary, since the transfer bandwith could be shared between both services, voice and data, right?
