Real High Speed

These are some pretty quick speeds. Although carriers keep uping the speeds, I will probably never be able to experience any of this because they don't expand their high speed network into rural areas, they just keep overlaying their current high speed network with the newer quicker technology.

The speeds are quite impressive, but i wonder why would you want that kind of speed in a phone that could very well fill out all of its memory in a few mins with that, plus the fact the actual downloads made with them are just small files and appliecations. thinking about multimedia features, it sound promising to have close to real-time, high quality audio and video streaming through that speed, but only time will tell if america jumps into the asia bandwagon and start setting up this type of high-speed data service over here.

I understand what your saying about what is the benefit of high speeds on a mobile phone,. . . but keep in mind that a mobile phone can also be used as a modem, when connected to a PC. Also, specifically HSUPA will be beneficial for video calling, which does require high uplink speeds.

Personally, I'm just WAITING for Cingular to have 3.6mbps air cards,. . . heck yes!!!

Hopefully by the end of 07, it's hard waiting, it really is.

Cingular already has a 3.6mbps aircard, the Sierra Wireless 875.

I went to Cingular's website and checked out the aircard you mentioned, it said "Theoretical peak downlink speed of 3.6Mbps and uplink speed of 384Kbps" what EXACTLY does this theoretical stuff mean, Cingular's broadband connect is always advertised at 400-700kbps, does this mean that in the future Cingular will provide a software upgrade to achieve the 3.6mbps, or is both the hardware, and software capable of this NOW????

If so, I'm jumping on it!!! Do you have the Sierra 875 yourself?

I have the Option GT Max, which does UMTS and HSDPA, and has "theoretical" d/l speeds of 1.8mbps, but I've never seen any sort of burst close to that. I usually see between 300-700kbps. Whether Cingular will ever deliver the speed that the Sierra 875 or Option cards are capable of, remains to be seen. But, in theory, the card is "capable" of those speeds.

Ah, I'm not interested in this "in theory" stuff, only interested in REALITY, and reality is these current speeds are 5yrs old, at least, and can't compete with the 6mbps I get from cable internet.

well, yeah, wireline speeds are much greater because they have been around for a longer time, dial up was the only option for several years as well. I really think we will be able to to get these great speeds in the coming years, 5 maximum.
