Possibly a good phone, but Sprint will screw it up!

There's no way this will work right when they first release it. I have bought the Razr2 and the Touch within a week of release, and both of them have been garbage. I ended up returning the Razr2 twice due to software glitches. My Touch still doesn't officially have GPS or EVDO Rev. A on it. Sprint will do the same thing it has done previously, which is release the phone to get something to market, and then promise a firmware update in six months, which is exactly what they did with the Touch. I am still waiting for the update. Most of their network isn't even on EVDO yet either, which makes most of the advanced features useless.

I am seriously considering ditching Sprint. They used to have the best new phones of any carrier, but no...

Correct me if I am wrong, but, are firmware and revision(updates) are up to the manufacturer, not the carrier. Feel free to correct me.

IF I'm not mistaken software is the manufacturer firmware it the carrier. Also, the Instinct is the equivalent to a franchise player I doubt they will send it down the same route as the RAZR or any other device. That would be suicide. From what I've learned the device will hit the ground running, no other Sprint device has a 100% open source SDK.

Just a little more info to peak your interest, at the Webinar a Sprint official said the Instinct was designed with Android and Linux in mind and that Sprint plans to "embrace those environments with new devices in 4thQ 2009 to 1stQ 2010". So a version of Android or Linux should be available for the Instinct late 2009 to early 2010.

Actually, most of their network does have EVDO Rev. A. If you live within the metropolitan areas of your city or town then there is EVDO Rev. A. Its backwards compatible within CDMA because its the same technology unlike Cingular that has to create a new separate technology just to upgrade their data capabilities. Also, phones having buggy problems is not the fault of the carrier, its the fault of the manufacturer.

I live in Lubbock, Texas. It is a metropolitan city with over 200,000 people. Within 100 miles, there are over 500,000 people. There isn't EVDO here. El Paso just got EVDO a couple of months ago. I can get EVDO here by roaming with Alltel, but it doesn't work very well. Until Sprint upgrades their towers, we will not have EVDO.

As to the bug problems, it is the carrier that is responsible for the firmware and software updates. A good case in point is with the HTC Touch. Alltel has already updated their Touch with GPS and EVDO Rev. A. This patch is publicly available on the HTC website. There is no patch for Sprint, and the Alltel patch is not compatible with Sprint, so that tells me it is Sprint that has not worked with HTC to g...

I don't disagree with ya. HSDPA which is the equivalent to EVDO Rev. A is only in a few cities nationwide. Every carrier isn't going to have their latest technology in every single city. The only one that really does is Verizon and of course they rolled out their high speed data before anyone else. Also, with the HTC, I dunno. I've had a few Windows Mobile devices including an mp3 player that windows won't provide any updates for because the product isn't made anymore and they've moved on to WM 6. But I agree that there should be updates to the firmware and software to add the new services available even if it is the manufacturer that provides it. The carrier should push for the software update to be developed. There is an open SDK o...

Oh and I do expect a lot of bugs to be worked out with this phone just like the iPod upon its release and this IS a Samsung so I guarantee there will be. I've had a few Samsung's that I've had buggy issues with. That said with Samsung's history, there definitely better be some updates for this phone in the future especially since they're puttin so much into it. It should have the support to back up this campaign and all the time they've spent developing it...

I agree. I think Samsung has done very well with it's phones, as the ones I have owned have always been some of the best. I just wish they had released it with the features of the F490 (5 MP camera, auto-focus, etc.) instead of the trimmed down versions we always get.

yes, it would be nice. But its just like with auto makers the US gets the watered down versions of everything. Why is it that Europe and Japan get the crazy 8MP camera phones and the biggest we have is like 3.1? I guess there's just not a big enough demand for that yet in the US market.

You need to do a little more research, Sprint has the largest mobile broadband network!

Dude, I don't need to do research. I used to work for Sprint and I've had Sprint for 6 years so I know how far more extensive Sprint's network is than any other. I think you took what I said about have support for the phone as network broadband coverage. And no, Sprint doesn't have the largest mobile broadband network. Verizon does, but Sprint has higher speed true 3G coverage in more areas than anyone else. You can tell by looking at each companies coverage for mobile TV. It takes higher bandwidth to have mobile TV which all the other carriers only have in a few cities. And by the way, I just got back from the Sprint store and have my INSTINCT!!! I'm so excited.
