Does Not Sync With Outlook????? MAJOR MAJOR MISTAKE!!!

I know this has been mentioned before, but how could Sprint/Samsung release a phone like this in 2008 and not give it the ability to sync with Outlook?

There is no excuse or no reason for this omission!!!!

I don't care what Sprint/Samsung say about this not being a phone for business users...that it is for "consumers". Why not have a bigger vision (such as Apple) and make it for ALL MARKET SEGMENTS of the cell phone industry?

DUMB DUMB DUMB!!!!!!

because it would be redundant.

There's the treo the centro, the curve, pearl, and 8830, touch, mogul, ace, and 700wx, that's 9 phones that sync with outlook. Do we really need another one?

There's no such thing as an "ALL MARKET SEGMENTS" phone. This phone is the high-end feature phone, not a PDA.

It syncs e-mail and your contacts wirelessly, and will in the future sync the calendar. What else do you need outlook for?

Now, thats a good reason:

Don't have it sync with Outlook because 9 other phones DO sync with Outlook? It would seem to me that should be the standard for high end/flashy/expensive phones such as the Instinct.

I understand there is not an "ALL MARKET SEGMENT" phone, but why limit yourself to one segment? Why not TRY to go after the business segment? Especially the "Pro-sumer" segment? That's what RIM has done and they have been more profitable and popular, and successful than ever!!!

And how hard would it be to give this phone the capability to sync with Outlook? If you don't use the feature, no big deal, but for a lot of people, the fact that it doesn't sync with Outlook is a DEAL BREAKER!!!

What else is there to sync? You...

There's a rumor that a company is making this compatible with mobile office. so more than just syncing with outlook, it may be able to view/edit office docs like word and excel sheets. The stuff you are talking about is software related, and with the SDK that is available, it's only a matter of time before something is developed for it.

I understand that now pretty much every phone has a camera. Not every user uses a camera. The same may come to pass with this and other features.

There's an SDK? Well that clinches it.

Instinct just took the lead (at least in my book) against the iPhone.

If you remember correctly when the Iphone originally launched it did not have the outlook sync feature, it was not until the device launched and third party companies where able to get use to the software and operating system of the Iphone did they come out with office sync. We are talking about a whole new and never before seen Samsung OS give them some time to make a program that will work with it.

To my understanding it does sync with outlook, it comes with software and a USB cable.

the software that comes with it is Sprint Media Manager, and Sprint Desktop Sync. My "evaluation" period ended for desktop sync, even though I never even opened the program. I am not sure what that actually does.

It's possible that it syncs with outlook but to what extent I don't know.

I just checked again, this program is included on the CD that comes with the phone, and it designed to sync with outlook.

I installed the software again, and it only syncs with outlook contacts. No Task, Calendar, Memo support yet.

surprise surprise ... PS screwed up something else without bothering to read anything about the phone.

The instinct will do the following:
Sync Contact List
Sync Email
FROM OUTLOOK
imagine that.

"On the work side, you can connect directly to your e-mail if your company supports Outlook Web Access. We used this method, and again we had our e-mail in minutes. OWA mail is subject to the same limitations described above, but if you need work e-mail on the fly, it's a satisfying option. Fortunately, any e-mails sent from the phone will appear back on your office computer."

This phone is a PAIN to get to sync with Outlook...first, you have to make sure that when you save your Outlook contacts, they are saved PERFECTLY, with no problems or the Mobile Sync will not work. I spent HOURS trying to get my contacts to sync, to no avail. And no, it will NOT synce calendar with Outlook...which the I-Phone will. It does seem insane that Samsung would not make this easier. I bought this phone the FIRST day it was available (even before that), and I will now be taking it back tomorrow. It's just not practical if it can't sync with my computer more seemlessly...Mobile Sync from Sprint is ridiculous!
