There's no problems with the touchscreen, just the reviewer.

I viewed the youtube video three times now. Here are my notes:

Times when the touch screen didn't respond as expected:

1. Speakerphone while in call.

2. Done key after call

3. Eye logo that brings up the right side menu in web

4. While trying to tap "Alaska" in music player.

out of the 8+ minute video, you missed four key presses. *note that I didn't say "the phone failed to register 4 key presses."

In the instance in situation 1, If you had peered into the included user manual, you would have noticed that to activate the speakerphone, you would slide the speaker icon to the left over the word "on." Attribute to user error (not saying that this wouldn't be a common mistake, but it is in the user guide.)

In situation 2...

To add to this,
I don't expect that more than 3% of users will actually open their user guides, but I would expect that of a person who runs a mobile phone website.

Here's some pictures to show exactly why they think the touchscreen sucks:

So, please eric, rich, edit your review to state that you missed the mark a few times, and it made you feel it was the touchscreen, but in fact you just had bad aim. ADMIT YOU ARE WRONG. I've posted irrefutable evidence.

So let me get this straight: the user tries to tap something that he should slide, which you acknowledge may be "a common mistake." You suggest that he should have looked in the manual, even though you also say you wouldn't expect more than a small percentage of users to do this.

And that's not a design flaw?

Sure, the phone can be used. But is it easy? Is it intuitive? Or do you have to go digging through the user manual to find out why you can't press that darn button, while many other users just give up?

Even if the reviewers had figured this out, it would be valid to point out that it was confusing. Well-designed products make it obvious what you should do. I do tech support for cell phones and I know that there are dumb users o...

yeah, most users don't wanna read a manual. I can see where Samsung made the buttons slide as opposed to just pressing it probably to stray away from trying to copy the UI of the iPhone and being considered even more of an iclone. And Samsung has always been a little "different." But the reviewers also shouldn't have expected it to be exactly like the iPhone which is what is seemed like. If I was trying to compete with someone and be "better" I wouldn't copy all of their ideas either. I would do somethings a little different. Then there's the fact that do we REALLY expect Samsung to compete with Apple as far as UI? Apples been at this for years. They have incredible marketing and the amazing ability to take technology and ideas that ...

Case in point:

If there wasn't a commercial showing it, and the store rep didn't tell you, you would have NEVER figured out that the iPhone has a multi-touch screen. Since there is no other phone like it, you would have not known that it was even possible. So to the uninformed user, they will think their phone is broken becuase they can't zoom in to a picture.

BUT... since apple made such a big deal about it, pretty much anyone now knows about it.

When a new or non-standard feature comes out, the end user will need to be somehow notified of these kind of things. It's one of the things that each rep is supposed to go over with any customer buying one of the phones, as well as some other things that make this phone different.

Do I ...

I could say more, but I prefer not to argue with someone who classifies themselves as a monkey.

I am beyond over myself.

I am calling it like it is. The review was poorly done. That's all. It has nothing to do with my personal opinion on the phone. It's a fact they messed up.

Anyone that disagrees with me is entitled to their opinion.

Well, at least your argument was well documented and thought out. It wasn't the usual "[s]hut up already. The Instinct is a not that great. I have used it. It bored me. Get over yourself," that the usual trolls spout. ;)

All kidding aside. . .

It took me about two seconds to figure out that I had to slide the speaker phone button over (because several other features on the phone use this standard.) If a reviewer (at least a serious reviewer) can't decipher the crypticness that is a sliding button, then maybe he should review things that ain't got no buttons. Like a scooter.

If you want something to gripe about when reviewing the Instinct, it's not hard to find them. It auto-recognizes when you plug regular headphones into the de...
