Ok so how is this tv thing gonna work? I can't imagine the tv option will be free to use, no no that would be much to customer friendly + plus verizon wouldn't make any money. Ok i can deal with having to pay for a service, but how is this going to differ from V-cast. Am going to simply be able to tune into my local tv channels, or is it gonna be some special signal verizon sends out?

it will be mediaFLO capable, but will be unlocked at a later date via a SW upgrade.

No. To be compatible, a phone must have a FLO radio chip and antenna. Therefore a new phone will be required.

It's MediaFLO, so it operates on its own network, in its own spectrum. To be compatible, a phone must have a special extra radio chip and antenna.

It will be all live TV channels, like CNN and ESPN, etc. At the very least I do expect it to include the big networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX). It's best-suited for news and sports, so hopefully it will include true local channels, not just generic East/West feeds.

mediaflo hasnt even been launched yet, or atleast that i know of. sprint is the first to have this out then verizon. so how in the world is verizon having mediaflo now if they dont even have rev a.

this is not going to be popular enough untill sprint wimax/mediaflo is let out. once that happens, i feel that calls will be on VOIP on wimax and have better range. all by next year ๐Ÿ™‚

mediaflo doesn't use rev a. as rich said, it is it's own signal. mediaflo won't make your downloads faster, it will let you watch TV. I don't know if what channels you can shoose from are selected by the wireless provider or what, but it has nothing to do with who has rev a first.

Actually Verizon has an exclusive on MediaFLO for a year I belive. It was announced at CES or CTIA last year that Verizon would be the first to launch the service. Sprint had been very quite about its MobileTV plans until they let slip that their VUE trial was actually a MediaFlo trial.

When this launches you can expect to have 10-15 channels of Live TV and several more of On-Demand "clip-casts" similar to what you can currently get through VCast.

As for the handsets you can expect the service to launch with a handset from Samsung (Duh!) and one from LG. Shortly after you can probably expect something from Motorola as well but LG and Samsung are the 2 main launch partners with Verizon when it comes to new tech.

First of all...and I wish this would post to every message that says "of course this is going to cost us" or " I can't imagine the tv option will be free to use, no no that would be much to customer friendly" as stated above, WHY WOULD ANY BUSINESS THAT IS FOR PROFIT GOING TO SPEND MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO CREATE SOMETHING YOU WANT FOR FREE? please feel free to give me an educated answer. Guess what....we all want something for free but what we don't realize is that something we crave probably didn't cost 12 shots of tequila and a hangover to create. Keep that in mind next time you say something that makes absolutely no sense or see if the salvation army will give you cell service... FOR FREE ๐Ÿคจ

Wow dude you sound really angry there buddy. Well your question was, "WHY WOULD ANY BUSINESS THAT IS FOR PROFIT GOING TO SPEND MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO CREATE SOMETHING YOU WANT FOR FREE?" Maybe to keep customer loyalty and satisfaction at high leaves and to offer an edge over the competition. In much the same principal that car companies constantly add and improve their cars. When adjusted for inflation, the price of an automobile has remained relatively the same for half a century now, although the technology packed into a car today far exceeds that of an automobile 50 years ago. To expound on the analogy a bit more, a car (cell phone) 10 years ago costs, adjusting for inflation, costs about the same as a car (cell phone) ...

i think it is stupid to ask for "free" stuff from wireless carriers. your car analogy is imperfect, because car dealers make a profit on the sale of the car.
carriers don't make a profit on the sale of cell phones, and in fact usually sell them at a loss. all their profit comes from subscription fees.
you are already getting "free" stuff and improved technology in the sense that your free phone now has a color screen, an outside display, a camera, and possibly bluetooth and GPS.
It is totally unrealistic and obtuse of anybody to think that carriers should just start rolling out expensive additional network features for free.
If you would rather have them do that, they would have to raise the cost of everybody's voice plans to compens...

you know for my two cents as a customer of verizon. i like the features they have and the packages they offer. as for tv on my phone wow...thats cool and if i have to pay to get it well have you pay for programming at your house (unless you use a regular antenna)so you pay for it on you phone even if they do it it first month free so you can try it out...and if the vx9900 can be upgraded to get it well they ill upgrade pay the fee and watch tv while in not at home.... and i will love it as will any of you who get it.
