The phone works with Helio only... which uses Sprint's Network... CDMA does not funtion like GSM where GSM phones can be unlocked and used on different networks. This is why people use GSM phones for travel and not CDMA phones.

Actually, CDMA can, depending on the lock on the phone. You still cant take most Tmobile phones and put a Cingular SIM card in and it will just work for everything... And most people use GSM because it is more global instead of the CDMA band which is [retty much only used in the US.

True, you can't take ANY carrier-branded GSM phone and just pop a SIM card into it. But, once it's unlocked you can. You either have to get the phone unlocked or start with an unlocked model alltogether by not buying it from a carrier. There is no such thing as "unlocking" a CDMA phone though.

Think of it this way: GSM is blocked at the phone level, whereas CDMA is blocked at the network.

Explanation: GSM phones are designed to work on any GSM network. The cell tower accepts any device it can see. This is how it is in Europe. American carriers actively modify the firmware of the phone to only allow their own SIM car...
