I just downloaded it, and it is so much faster and easier to use than the way I used to (through Opera).

Next step: Let it run in the background, and notify you of new e-mail (like the Gmail Notifier does...checking however often you choose).

I went to DL this thing, and it says something like - WILL NOT WORK WITH T-MOBILE USA OR BREW SERVICE PROVIDERS.

This leaves who? Cingular and friggin Sprint?

WOW GREAT GOING!

Google just needs to become a MVNO and have an interface gooey that runs all their apps. Imagine having:

gmail
google earth
google office
picasa
local

bla bla all in one place on a phone that was meant to run them at any time you NEED.

Make google really mobile 🙂 Like Helio with unlimited data, and minute plans for one flat rate. woot. or should I say wootle!

:-P

I have t-mobile and it worked fine for me. For many users, tmo blocks the ports for it to work. Many use a proxy server to get opera mini and other java apps to work.

I pay for cheap data and tons of minutes that works everywhere i go. It works for me. I don't care about rural coverage or super fast data that costs more. Some people like it or need it. I don't. I'm not about to pay more for faster data and all when i can't even use my own phone. Forced to buy a sprint or verizon phone? screw that.. I will take my unlocked european phone anyday.. Works for me.

Well good for you. Glad you are happy with it. If you ever need more then switch. You cannot bag on Sprint because they have the fastest and largest broadband coverage then.

I think it has to do with if you have an unlocked phone on not. I have friends who have TMobile and depending on if they have an unlocked phone or not some can use things like opera mini, google local, google maps, etc. and some cannot.

Pez what phone do you have?

How about you djdanska?

If you have an unlocked phone, or a phone that you can change the data settings, you can tell it to use the proxy to get around that. Some people have port 80 access when they shouldn't. If they do, it works fine. Some of the motorola's for example, you can change settings via data cable and stuff. Some of the tmo nokia's restrict java apps though. Have to be signed or something.

Google would not dare jump into the wireless business just like that; plus, Sprint does not use BREW, uses JAVA, so....

If you're a Sprint user, download it from the Content Catalog. Either on your phone or through sprint.com. Just search "gmail". It'll pull up an application for $0.00. Hope this helps.
