korea = cdma is no longer true. both sk telecom and lg telecom, the two largest carriers in korea, now operate hsdpa as well as ev-do networks. so it is difficult to say which LG means by "3G"

A R-UIM is basically the CDMA equivalent of a GSM SIM.

Obviously, R-UIM makes programming unnecessary. R-UIM also behaves like a regular SIM card when popped into an (unlocked) GSM phone, making roaming relatively easy. It's also possible to transparantly roam on both GSM and CDMA network with a multimode device, AKA a CDMA phone with GSM capability.

Basically, R-UIM strip GSM of it's greatest advantage over CDMA. I heard R-UIM are to be available somewhere in the future... unsure about the timeframe.
