I get your point.. but still, Sprint and US Cell are the outlets from which the sales will originate... so in essence, they ARE helping the cause...

sprint and uscc are helping the cause in the cheapest way possible. they are not losing any of their money on the sale nor are they donating any money after the sale

if you have one of those charity donation boxes for mda or whatever the charity of the month is in your store, are you helping that charity even if you don't put any money in that box? it's about the same.

in europe, when you buy a red phone, participating carriers then donate 5% of your monthly bill to red, which i think is pretty cool, because then by buying the phone, you and your carrier have made an agreement to fund red for the long haul. here there's no agreement between you and your carrier other than that they'll take your money just like they normally do. i'm a b...

I'm disappointed in Sprint... they're almost as big as Verizon... I'm sure they can afford to help out... I don't really expect it from US CELL since I think they're even smaller than tracfone...lol

How is USC smaller than Trac phone? Trac Phone has just over 5M subscribers compared to 5.75 with USC.

TRAC Phone is a subsidiary of America Movil which is the largest South American wireless provider. I hope you aren't counting the parent companies numbers in it.

Numbers don't usually lie. But then again Al Gore invented the internet.

The rankings by subscribers for national carriers in the US is as follows:

1. Cingular
2. Verizon
3. Sprint/Nextel
4. T-Mobile USA
5. Alltel
6. US Cellular
and so on...

I think its funny that they are trying to get donations for aids which is for the most part a preventable disease; not to mention Americans are dying at much faster rates from cancer, heart disease...ect. I think the campaign should not donate to aids and tell people to be smart before fooling around with others, or heres a crazy idea....don't fool around so much....hmmmmmmmmmm.

Dude, I don't know what type of sex ed classes were offered where you grew up, but I think we all know that it only takes one sexual encounter to contract the disease. Whether you have one partner, or one thousand, we are all at risk.

You are correct we are at risk, however my point was not as at risk as cancer or cardiovasular disease. And you can not have sex....a pretty good way not to get aids.

Wow, this guy really missed the point. Bono doesn't really care about America in this sense. He wants American money to fund a charity that helps African people with a disease that is more a threat to them than cancer. There is not sex ed classes or puplic free health clinics like we are fortunate to have here.

This is about a phone, you pay a little extra for it, sprint or US cellular will donate that to Product (RED).

i'm cooler than you, aids is not just a disease for the promiscuous or gays in africa.

local beliefs (which are still pretty ancient) as well as evangelical missionaries (who. like you, think that sex education is telling people not to fool around) have created a culture that demands, or even supports condom use. so the vast majority of sex in africa is unprotected sex.

however most of africa still has a culture where its ok, even expected, that men including married men, will sleep around. and thus have unprotected sex with many women. so aids is transmitted rather rapidly because it's not like these guys are getting tested or women have a drawer full of condoms and are telling the dudes to suit up.

this means that women both get i...

don't slap a label on someone because they have a certain view, or assume that all people of a group have the same view. πŸ™„ i know plenty of evangelicals who care a ton about the condition of africa, and donate their time, money and prayers to try to help out. probably more than you can say.

there are stupid evangelicals, stupid atheists, and stupid muslims. don's ASSume stuff about people and insult everyone of that group when you have no basis for that. 😑

Hey, it got the Oprah Winfrey endorsement!
I can't speak for her, but it is definitely a painless, bang-for-the-buck thing.

If you are a naysayer about the cause, fine. Just get some mediation and consensus reaching skills; if you ever have to confront a cell-phone custody battle, you're a step ahead. Whether it comes to your cell phone or AIDS, clarity counts.
