I guess the giving away handsets didn't pay off huh? It would've been nice if they stuck around for at least a year. I wonder WHY they are shutting down.

Maybe they should've marketed it BETTER! I like the idea of ESPN on a mobile phone, I really did.

Maybe if their plans weren't ridiculously expensive, they would have fared better.

Well. . .keep in mind that these plans do include data, such as MMs's, TXT msgs, video clips, and I think some data for internet, but none of the wireless companies offer any internet plans that are worth much, becuase they just don't offer enough data, 5mb's for $10/mo, screw that!!! 5mb's is NOTHING, 5mb's is like pennies worth of data.

Yeah, I really hope Helio makes an impact on the wireless industry, and continues to offer inovative mobile phones with innovatice services.

I really do hope Helio sticks around long enough to make a real serious impact.

As soon as 1xRTT vision for Sprint was released, unlimited data plans were available. It's curious to see carriers still have limits on that. Cingular only offering a few MB?
If a company wants to limit it (so they can make bank on overage) should start using GB instead of MB.
1/2 GB for 5 bucks sounds about right.

I am a 3rd party premier dealer for Mobile ESPN and I just found about this this morning. I just sold the phones for the price I was suppose to sell them at. It was a awesome deal they had. I never thought that it would result into this!

I too have sold a number of these plans and I have to say that I for one, will be sorry to see them go. They tried, but it just didnt work out. Just think of the write off they're gonna get though. I did hear that their content will be going to other carriers (Sprint), so I will probably still get to enjoy it after all.

I hope it does. I think it would be a lot better if this were kind of a style of phone through sprint or something with the UI and everything. It looked sweet but I think most people didn't want to pay that much for mobile sports.

Yeah! I wonder why, too! I mean, 10 thousand customers is a LOT!

This, of course, is extreme sarcasm.

Maybe it is a smart move to get out before you put too much into it?? I dunno if you ask me sometimes you gotta lose money for a bit before you make it. I mean they say most businesses lose money their first year cuz of building their infastructure and just getting people to try and check out their product. If you ask me they should have made a better business plan and planned for a better attack on the market cuz it was a very brilliant idea. Now we just gonna have to rely on sprint picking this up and drilling the customer for 15 dollars a month for same service.

comparison:

ESPN:
Fan 400 plan - $39.99/mo
Total Sports Package - $24.99/mo
Equipment Protection - $8.99/mo
Total - $73.97/mo

So you get 400 minutes, Unlimited Night and weekend after 9pm, 200 text messages, internet, MMS, and video clips.

Sprint (assuming it is also an evdo phone):
Fair and Flexible 450 min plan - $39.99/mo
Power Vision Plus Pack - $15/mo
Total Equipment Protection - $6/mo
300 SMS Text messages - $5/mo
Total - $65.99/mo

With this you get 50 more minutes, nights at 7pm instead of 9pm, free mobile to mobile minutes, free roaming, adjustable minutes at $5 for every 30 min, NFL network, ABC news, Fox Sports, way more channel options, MMS, 300 Text messages, On Demand.

My pick is more stuff for less. (Plu...

Yeah... M2M is not included w/ Sprint fair n flex, espn had free roaming, total equip protection is $6 with both, and power vision plus is $20 a month. Thats it for your mess-ups... now, does anyone really think that they're going to get the full on ESPN application with th $15 power vision or $20 plus package? Not gonna happen... Sprint's already giving a lot away with power vision, the espn stuff will be extra...

Finally, you didn't need the total sports package for access to the espn stuff, you just needed it for the best part... alerts!

And if you can find me a Sprint phone that will leave a rolling sports ticker on my external screen, I may just pick one up...

If someone is paying $50-60 for cable/dish, why in the HELL would someone pay their ridiculous fees for their service. They should have just sold content through Sprint, which would have made them more money. I called this from the beginning, and this will be the first of many MVNO's to FLOP as they become "humbled" by the wireless business.
