Cause nokia paid them a lot of money to call it something else. Most people don't know, but Verizon makes the manufacturers pay to have their names on the phones. Thats why you never saw an audiovox CDM-8940, you saw a Verizon CDM-8940. Audiovox didn't have or wasn't pilling to pay the money to brand their phones. pantech is ina similar boat. They still make money selling the handsets (which seem to be quality phones thus far) and nokia gets their name on a phone without the hassle and cost of R&D. Once pantech becomes more of a name brand recognisable to the US, or once they have a lot of phones on the market for all the carriers, I'd imagine they'll take their name back.

Right, I think it's a case where the Nokia name helps sell this phone. The name Pantech would not help because most people have never heard of it. People like buying phones from brands they recognize and trust. Everyone wins in this deal: Verizon gets money for Nokia branding it; Nokia gets millions of CDMA handsets on the market with thier name that they didn't have to manufacture themselves; and Pantech sells more phones than if it had their own name on it. WIN WIN WIN! 😁

Um, all the 8940s we had had Audiovox on them. I don't know who you were getting your phones from.
