Question about the maps

These maps and diagrams on the articles are extremely easy to understand, do you make them yourself, or get them from another source?

Is there any such diagram detailing the carriers current licenses for other bands like Cellular and PCS?

Rich, since Verizon and AT&T bought so much 700MHz spectrum, how does that compare with T-Mobile's AWS spectrum winnings? Does that give Verizon the same amount of spectrum as T-Mobile's AWS spectrum holdings? Since T-Mobile bought the most AWS spectrum, they could launch LTE with that too right?

We talked about T-Mobile's AWS holdings here:

If you compare that to Verizon's new 700 MHz licenses, it's roughly on par.

T-Mobile is already well into building their 3G network in the AWS band. It's already built in a few cities, where it will be launching very soon.

LTE equipment isn't close to being available yet, so T-Mobile's network in the AWS band is not LTE. I think it's too soon to even say what kind of upgrade options they will have available to them.

T-Mobile's network is WCDMA. It might be HSDPA as well, but if it is, don't expect much from that. T-Mobile is building its 3G network in the AWS mostly just to add voice capacity. Knowing their strategy, I wo...

I hope they aren't being slick. They need to make it data also. The T-Mo wing on EDGE is really slow.

I don't expect them to disable 3G data on anything, just don't expect any grand new 3G data services. I'm not expecting anything like AT&T's Cellular Video and Video Sharing, for example.

They are dodging questions about HSDPA, though, which is weird. There's no reason not to install HSDPA network equipment these days, and once you have that, there's no reason not to offer HSDPA in your high-end devices. Something like the Wing is a perfect example. Yet every time I ask if they will offer HSDPA, they're unwilling to say "yes", which I find odd. 😕 There's a huge speed difference. WCDMA alone (without HSDPA) isn't much faster than EDGE.

Yeah, I find it weird too. All of their recent 3G phones have been UMTS phones. I wonder if they are going to remain mum until CTIA to show off new devices. They never mention anything about HSDPA. I wonder if they are trying to keep AT&T from knowing that they are jumping into 3.5G at launch. I don't see whats the threat though. I heard rumors that T-Mobile is supposed to have the faster 3G network in the US when they launch it.
