I have an LG 8300 and I am able to play mp3s on it... Why would the Chocolate be considered the first VCast phone to play mp3 without converting when it can be done on LG 8300???

the chocolate comes out of the box this way, no hacking needed. The 8100/8300 are not advertised or sold as mp3 players, only vcast music, you must go in and change settings around to get it to work properly since Verizon does not technically support that function on those models.

Actually, I have a vx9800 and it supports mp3's out of the box. There was no hack done, no software update. I simply put them on my miniSD card and hit play and boom, music.

So Protege is right, the chocolate is not the first phone to support the mp3 format.

Did you have to enable MP3s the first time by going into internal menu??

yes but it dodn't support vcast music did it...no. You had the early version just like the early 8100 that had mp3 player. when verizon came out with vcast music the phones were switched to vcast music phones and mp3 was set to off out of box and you have to go in and switch the setting in the hidden menu to turn mp3 back on and change shortcut key for music player. The V(9800) being sold currenlty supports vcast music not mp3 per verizon, not to say you can't work around that by changing some settings and turning the mp3 function back on. This is the First Phone That supports both out of Box supported by Verizon.

I have the Mot-e815 that does vcast and has a built in mp3 player which I use all to time, be it to play songs or even pick up a second language from my learning cd's ๐Ÿ˜ˆ. I am writing asking if anyone knows if I can do the same to my wife's lg-vx8300 phone. I think someone mentioned that you can change the feature from windows WMA to mp3 from the menu screen. If so, how do I go about in doing that? Also, is there a legal way that I can tether my mot-e815 to my laptop to get internet access without paying the 59.95 extra for broadband access, just by using the vcast feature?
Thanks in advance

the 815 doesn't have vcast-MUSIC just vcast, once again the chocolate is the first to offer both out of box with no hacking or changing of settings. As far as the 8300 goes it is easy, hit menu then 000000 go to the last option that says mp3 select it and hit enable. Power off phone and don't touch anything else in there!!! Now go to setting and selct shortcut key, play key, select mp3. Now the phone will play mp3 format, just toss songs on card and throw into phone. Legal way to tether 815...no. By using the broadband verizon wants their $. Sorry.

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate it greatly. I did it for my wife's 8300 and she loves it. I was just wondering if there is a way to go to the menu key on the 815 as I just did with the 8300. Is there a way I can do that, by going to the "back door"?

"The Chocolate is also the first VCAST Music phone that can play mp3s without converting them to Windows Media files."

It is the 1st phone marketed as Vcast Music that plays both wma and mp3. All the others you have to cable transfer and it converts mp3's into wma. The 9800 was not originaly Vcast music, so with those phones you just put mp3's directly tonthe SD card.

I did have to go into settings on my LG 8300 and enable mp3s the first time BUT I dont need to cable transfer... I simply put my microSD card into the card reader/writer and transfer the songs over... then i just go to GET TUNES & TONES/My MP3 to play...

Samsung a930 can also play MP3s however some minor hacking is required... I did this myself and it worked..

Oh, I thought you ment in the regular phone settings menu. not the programming menu, your average joe consumer should not have that programming sequence. They could really mess the phone up. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your information on the lg-vx8300. Do you have a way to go to see what settings I can change for the mot-e815? I'm not talking about to change it for mp3 format but for anything else.

yup, on the chocolate though it is set to view and play either format, no changing stuff around. I had a ton of mp3's on my 8100 after the update that removed the mp3 player by turning it back on in secret menu, but this is set to play and allow both simultaneously out of box, no tweaking to get it working
