Motorola KRAP

Not much. Speakerphone is about it. It's designed to be both super-cheap and iconic.
It's the first phone in Motorola's Scalpel family, which will eventually cover all price points and form factors, replacing the current RAZR family.
Scalpel has a lot of new technology, such as a new type of display that's unlike LCD or OLED. It's easier to see and uses a lot less power. It standby time is measured in weeks.
It also has high-quality speakerphone technology borrowed from iDEN group.
It also has dual internal antennas - one at the top and one at the bottom - so you get equally good reception no matter how you hold it. (Most phones with internal antennas are fairly sensitive to where and how you hold them.)
You made good points.
I just hope Motorola passes the UNimpressive Nokia as #1 soon, Nokia makes nothing impressive outside of the N series handsets.
Like Southern California? and Hawaii?
The iPod has a great color display for non couch potatoes that like being outdoors.
Few manufacturers of phones have come up with displays that are made for people who spend anytime outside. Hopefully this is the start.
They are obviously trying to get every mile they can out of the design, they even did it with the "Q"
The RAZR is a flip phone... Obviously, manufacturers are moving towards more slim designs but that doesnt mean they are based on the RAZR... the keypad doesnt even look the same... The Q is RAZR-inspired and is part of the RAZR family ... it even has some parts that are metallic and resemble the RAZR on the keypad... but this phone is not RAZR-inspired...

Saying that is going to be built on a different platform does not mean it is not still borrowing heavily from the RAZR way of doing things.
There are some significant changes in this, yes. But I still think it is essentially a sliver as far as form-factor goes. i think motorola just found something that works and are sticking with it.
