I wonder.....

1. Do you think that we will have to pay an extra tax on this service....(i.e the 911 tax...when the GPS location network is not even running at all 911 call centers)? I cant wait to pay more in taxes for services i dont really want...(i know there is a storm coming when i look outside...or hey go on the web from my phone and check the weather.)

2. I think these alerts are going to come as text messages....so will i be charge for this text message....even if i never really wanted it....and even if i am on a text messaging plan...will it count as a message...???

i wonder????

Good thing i make millions of dollars and really dont care how much my phone bill costs.

Why is it that people are always sooo cynical? We are talking about public safety here!!!! When bad things happen people turn to the government to make things right. Now the government is trying to help people get out of harms way in the event of an emergency situation like 9-11 or hurricane Katrina.

How can someone be so short sighted to only be concerned about the cost involved. What is a human life worth??? In my opinion you cannot put a dollar amount on that.

IF, I have to pay a little extra so that my life, my families lives, my friends lives or even a complete strangers life can be saved than so be it. The article did not even say it would cost the general public anything. It did say however that an individual could o...

blah, blah, BLAH, if you have to have a tet message to tell you there is a damn tornado, hurricain, ect; you should be punished, does the strong winds and stuff not tell you enough? "hey my home is blowing away, but everything will be ok until i get a text message," what if the toweres were down, your screwed, waste of money!!!!!!!

I doubt they would send you an alert during a disaster but rather before a disaster such as a hurricane...

While I mostly agree with what you are saying. What about all of us that work indoors? Shall we periodically interup our work day to go outside to check on what is going on up in the sky? I think that is a great Idea and I for one will difinitly sign up for the sky lookers task force, how about you?

while for us people that work inside, a radio or t.v. will do the job, im sure if a storm is bad SOMEONE will listen to the radio, if u have a cell phone, more than likely you have a T.V. and can see days before a hurricane hits the u.s.

im actually happy this system is coming
i live in tornado ally(Oklahoma) but i work in doors in a mall few no windows in my store...i have weather alerts already sent 2 my phone by free services but honestly they come 20-30 mins after the warning has been issued!! not good when in 20-30 a storm can destroy your way of life with out warning...so if the system is more timely then i give it 2 thumbs up....

and cost should be minumum its just servers connecting to other network once in place its low maintance....or even more basic....1 man a phone and bunch of numbers he calls to send the warning.....much like they still do now in many areas 🤣

That's the WHOLE problem with this country. No one knows how to take care of themselves! Womb to the tomb socialist crap! You can't do ANYTHING in this world without some stupid government regulation. The government schools have so dumbed down the population that they accept like a bunch of scared rabbits anything that will "protect them". Bunch of BS. Take care of yourself! If you are so stupid that you need a text message to know that a hurricane, tornado, terrorist attack or any other natural disaster or man made disaster
then do the rest of us a favor, move somewhere else. I'm sure myself and a lot of Americans outside the liberal mecca of NYC, the beltway area of DC, the left coast are flat tired of the crap that has been shov...

I'm pretty sure that if a txt message was sent to your phone from the carrier that it would be free of charge. Just like if you have automatic bill payment and something doesn't go through you are sent a txt message from the carrier to remind you.

As we all know txt messages sent from the carrier are free of charge. Just like calling customer service is free of charge.

hey the 911 thing would have been fine if it worked....but 80% or more of the country it does not work.....so we are paying for a service that could not be provided and that is what is going to happen with this new text thing....

so a small company will start this service and then we all will be charged for about 10 years and then we will get to use this after that..

woo hoo ... i cannot wait...oh wait i dont care.....

Ok, If you made millions of Dollars, you would never own a RAZR phone because they are pieces of Crap. What millionaire would own a low quality pile of crap? And, if you made so much money, why would you even post a discussion with the title, "Another Way for Us to HAve to Spend More Money"? Good Job!!RAZRSSUCK...consider that for a new name...

Second, when you receive a text from your wireless company, you do not get charged. And if for some reason you do get charged from your carrier, then switch because they are crap. The article clearly indicates that the messages will be sent to the carriers and then distributed to it's customers in the areas being affected.

Third, if you don't care about messages, have your company turn th...
