You are past the 15 day satisfaction guarantee that VZW offers on all phones that they sell, so you won't be able to take the 8300 back.

You could just buy the new phone on a new line of service and just go with one of VZW's family share plans.
If you don't actually need the extra line, you just keep the other phone for a back up in case of loss, theft, or damage.

Never thought of that. Great tip.

Just keep in mind that it might be cheaper to actually just buy the phone outright:

Up to a Family plan (assuming you have cheapest plans): +$30/month ($39.99 individual to $69.99 family)

2 years: $30*24 = $720

Not to mention the $350 or so the phone would cost you

It may seem like not so much at first to add another line of service, but in all reality it might just be cheaper to buy the phone full price instead of having to deal with another contract.

Just my 2 cents...

You may be right.

But if I already have the Family Plan, doesn't it cost just $9.99 per month per added line, sharing minutes?

Even so, it will still cost you a lot of $$

$10/month * 24 months = $240

Phone itself w/2yr contract = $350 (more than this price after a mail in rebate I would assume)

You're looking at $590 over 2 years when you can just purchase it full price (as long as the listed price on website is outright) at $400.

Either way you look at it, I think you'd definitely save money buying it outright versus signing a new 2 yr service agreement.

Yep.

I should have been more clear. I have daughters who, not too long from now, will be needing cell phones. So, I would give them what my wife and I now have (the LG VX 8300), adding two lines, and buy something new.

I wouldn't add a line and buy the phone just to have the phone.

Thanks.

Yea that wouldn't be a bad idea then...probably cheaper because you'd save money getting your daughters phones.

Hopefully you enjoy the phone when you purchase it.

It is highly unlikely that $400 is the retail price for this phone. in reality it probably means that you will pay $400 if you buy in-store with an activation or upgrade, and then get a $50 rebate. I would anticipate the retail price of this being at least $500, and there's a good chance it will be closer to $600.

just ebay the 8300 you should get 150+ for itthen buy this full retail, you can still send in the rebate, i do it all the time. so 520 full retail-150 you made on 8300, you are at 370 send in $50 rebate you are at $320.

Unfortunately, since you literally just renewed your contract, you will have to wait until your next upgrade date to get this phone at the discounted price. If, however, you are dying to have this phone right now, save up some cash and buy it from a dealer for the outright price, which may cost you a pretty penny or two.....

You can then do an ESN change on your phone to switch over to your newest fancy....and then sell your 8300 to someone to make at least SOME of your money back. 😉
