This phone doesn't support 800mhz cdma

I just found out from the website "phone arena" that this phone will only support 1900mhz cdma and 800mhz iden. No roaming onto Verizons 800mhz cdma. I'm not too happy about that since Sprint's coverage is minimal without the capability of roaming. Can anyone tell me how we can find out if this is going to be a permanent issue with Sprint Nextel ( no roaming onto Verizon's 800 mhz cdma) or is this just going to be an issue with this phone in particular? Any help you folks could give me would be much appreciated! Thank you.

If the final release won't have CDMA 800, then don't buy the phone, because it's primarily major markets that have CDMA 1900. Rural areas are likely to have CDMA 800 due to th...

CDMA doesn't even operate at 800 MHZ it operates at 850 and 1900 MHZ. Iden is the only Tech. that operates at 800

I know you posted at 3:46am, but did you have your morning coffee yet? Lol. 🤣 Because CDMA operates in the 800MHz and 1.9GHz frequencies, while GSM works in the 850MHz frequency and 1.9GHz. (Here in the United States)

“CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) - A form of multiplexing, which allows
numerous signals to occupy a single transmission channel, optimizing the use of available
bandwidth. The technology is used in ultra-high-frequency (UHF) cellular telephone
systems in the 800-MHz and 1.9-GHz bands. The CDMA2000 standard is thirdgeneration
(3G) mobile wireless technology and delivers data at speeds ranging from 144
Kbps to 2 Mbps.”

Let's agree that 850 MHz refers to Analog/TDMA/CDMA/GSM A and B block cellular with channels in 824-849 and 869-894 MHz bands.

Nextel, in a two-way radio context uses 806-821 and 851-866 MHz bands.

This information was adapted from the 2002 edition of "The Cell Phone Handbook" by Penelope Stetz.

So 850 Mhz is more of a concensus & marketing description for cell phones, whereas 800 MHz iDen has its roots in two-way radio. Also, you wouldn't want to get spectrum mixed up in a emergency first responder radio interoperability situation, since the airwaves may be crowded.

One installation that comes to mind is the Bay Area Rapid Transit project that so far has BART
police, BART operations, maintenance, and commercial wireless (at l...

Let’s not agree, loll. Even though sometimes they call it 850MHz I want to call it 800MHz. Also, who cares about the context? I don’t.

If there isn’t 1.9GHz in his area then obviously he shouldn’t get this phone and I don’t think it is a big deal. I made a point about many people are getting Power Vision pc-cards which only use 1.9GHz and that is such a hit so it looks like they will be targeting the same people who are in 1.9GHz band. Rural areas obviously won’t have 1.9GHz, but so what? They just won’t get this type of phone- big deal.

It is just going to be an issue with this dual mode phone, there are talks to expand it, but there might be difficulty with all of the frequencies together and applications. So time will tell. By the way, the pc-cards that Sprint has (the Power Vision ones) only run on 1.9 GHz too and not 800 MHz but that has been such a huge success so I guess the same people that Sprint attacked and is attacking with the pc-cards they are doing the same with these basic dual mode phones. So that shouldn’t really matter except that in rural areas it would be problematic and it looks like that isn’t their focus. Since as you mentioned it doesn’t have 800MHz but 1.9GHz just make sure you take advantage of that free trial because if it doesn’t work then don’t...

Thank you everybody for your help, I really appreciate it. I guess I just wanted to make sure that after sprint rolls us nextel customers onto cdma, that I will still have the same coverage I do now, hopefully more ( I thought) which is why I was hoping to have expanded voice coverage with verizon's network.
No big as long as I don't lose any coverage that I have now through nextel.
once again Thank you!

You are welcome, but many of consumers if they want this phone, will have to wait for others that will come out in the future to entice them to pick up the phone. If it doesnt suit you, dont get it. Since this doenst, dont get it. Remember the free trial- it is there for consumers like you.

And another previously hopeless consumer has been saved by the opinions of the few in PhoneScoop. But do the intelligent ones pat themselves on the back? No... because they know... there will be another one. And at that time the geniuses will be here ready to assist. Until that time... we will commune together and and discuss discussing the Blade vs. the RAZR...

Saved by the phone scoop!!! Woohoo.

That is why many consumers who complain in person and then here on the forums, especially phone scoop, are very naïve when it comes to these things.

The countdown is on till another one emerges. What is your guess? 20 mins? Loll

Blade is betta!

You see... I know that the Blade is better, but if others read that, we would get launched into another downward spiral of an argument to no end.
But on another note... I would guess there already has been another hopeless consumer and/or idiots in here. You see every time there is an article about VZW the idiot kool-aid drinkers come out in force... I haven't even ventured into the above articles' discussion boards yet, for fear I will have to lecture the less fortunate once again!

Ha-ha.

Take a look at the Verizon and Cingular boards, now, because they are talking about the lawsuit filed against Cingular was rubbish and something else and in the Verizon forum saying that stuff about Cingular. Don’t you love that? At least keep the forums and its topics relevant. I used to do that, and then I felt that it was just bringing out negative connotation on the board even though that I mean nothing by it. I think there should be just a main carrier forum that has competitors and stuff because it is getting pathetic.

One thing I want to add to all this... iDEN coverage is not that different in "MOST" markets from Sprint's coverage (not including roaming). Some areas CDMA is MUCH better, and in some places iDEN reaches better... its going to depend on where you are. Keep in mind this though... you are not going to have to migrate over for a while yet, AND THEN there is always the fact that Sprint is going to put CDMA on those iDEN sites that they need to add coverage to. If your service isn't better on CDMA right now... it will be soon enough... and its like nextel18 said... if you dont like this one... dont buy it... you KNOW there will be plenty more options going forward...
